G+_Adam EL-Idrissi
I bought a ps3 slim, model number cech2001a, from a friend over Christmas break. I bought a new Blu Ray drive since the old one wouldn't do games or anything Blu Ray. Installed it before work and everything is connected but for some reason it still won't read the Blu Ray videos or games. I tried gta 5 and black ops 2 and neither would be read. I followed the ifixit guide on display assembly. Any ideas?
G+_Dave Peters
The problem with the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 I believe have to do with there being a chip on the board attached to the drive that is paired to the system's main board, if the drive board is not swapped out on the drive then the device will not play disks after a change. Had this happen when I tried swapping a drive out in an Xbox 360 a few years back, it's a security protocol to prevent users from trying to mod the hardware
G+_Adam EL-Idrissi
I case I need to pull the drive a part? There's no board outside of either drive.
G+_Dave Peters
it's specifically the power board for the blu-ray drive that is keyed to the motherboard, so you would have to tear apart both drives, disconnect the board from the original and connect it into the replacement, with luck the problem is not in the power board from the original drive
G+_Adam EL-Idrissi
I wouldn't think so since DVD and cd worked in the original. Blu Ray discs spun up and it attempted to read it but gave an error that basically said need a new drive.
