G+_Adam EL-Idrissi
Is there any benefit to switch to a edgerouter lite over a pfsense box? My use case is 75mbps download with two users,a few VM and the occasional use of openvpn. I've got AV,squid and another plugin running and have no issues with pfsense. I'm thinking about self hosting my site and was thinking about using the erl as the main router and then dmz off that to pfsense to the hosting server. Or potentially getting rid of pfsense all together and just use the erl and no dmz. Just curious on anyone's performance and/or experience with either router
G+_Travis Hershberger
It would probably be worth getting an EdgeRouter just to learn the command line if you don't already know a real router OS. As for being enough better than pfsense to replace and/or supplant it, probably not.
G+_Branden Snyder
I should start by saying that I have a platonic love affair with pfsense lol. But I have installed the ER-X appliance and keep it in my portfolio of appliances. Both are good products. If you have sufficient hardware then pfsense is my recommendation for your LAN, WAN, & DMZ needs. You said,"... have no issues with pfsense." so I would recommend staying there. Otherwise, the EDGE line is a complete and fully functional device right out-of-the-box. Also, the interfaces (gui and cli) are similar to Juniper routers. Like Mr. Hershberger mentioned, it's a less expensive version of a 'real' router OS
G+_Branden Snyder
Oh and both products are able to create a DMZ using another NIC port. You can still have a DMZ even if you don't purchase the Ubiquiti ER-L
