G+_Mikey Likes IT
I keep seeing the RING door bell in your show, and I really like the idea of it, but the one thing that I do not see it doing is outputting to a DVR system that someone already owns. sure recording to the cloud is good, but why pay for that service if you already have a DVR setup? I was wondering if you guys were brave enough to take one of those apart and see if it is possible to connect that thing to a DVR to record when it captures video? maybe hooking up a Ras-Pi to it to send the HDMI signal to a DVR? I would love to "Know how" to do this.
G+_Eddie Foy
There are a host of other similar products. And rolling your own isn't that tough. If you already have the DVR, work out from there on what you need. If starting from scratch, ponder the need for additional cams. I've use a bullet cam and an old x-10 xmitter, outputing composite vid (its really all you need. Can't see a major need for 1080i peephole cam. Your trying to see the person, not their pimples.:P ) A usb capture card might even work with a RPi.
G+_Ben Reese
I'm sure it would be a conflict of interest for Padre to hack the Ring. Plus, that would prove an insecurity in the system. Rolling your own with a Pi would probably be the best to get what you want. Some IP cams (I've worked with the Panasonic cams in the past) have switch inputs too, so that may be all you need.
