Has anyone else had this problem?

Has anyone else had this problem? My laptop has been doing something odd when first starting up whether it's from sleep, hibernation or even from a complete shutdown. Instead of getting my usual ASUS splash screen and then going to the WIndows 10 login I'll get this weird flickering bar at the top of the screen for a little bit and then just a black screen. Otherwise the computer is on and you can see the hard drive light flickering like it normally would at start up. Unfortunately I have no choice but to hit the power button and restart. I might have to do the restart a few times before it finally makes it all the way to where I login and can start working on it without it going to a a black screen in the middle of it. I've thought it might be a hardware problem, but it seems a little weird a couple of restarts and it works fine. I've even tried working the hinge to see if I can get it to the screen to comeback or if I already have it working to see if it'll go black again. No change. I can't remember when it started happening so I can't really pin it down to any particular software update. The video card running in it is an Nvidia GeForce GT750M. If you need any other info just ask. Any ideas?

If by "weird flickering bar" do you mean like a slowly flashing cursor? a white bar about a quarter inch long or less, in the top left corner, on a black screen?

If that is what you are seeing, I would first suspect that your hard drive is going bad, and the computer is having a hard time finding the boot partition.

I would definitely make sure you have at least two good backups of any important files from that hard drive, even if you have to restart it numerous times to get Windows to load.

Once you have good backups, I would consider replacing that hard drive.

From the video that you posted, this is not the flashing cursor problem that I was thinking it might be.

It definitely appears to be a bad connection between the video chip and the motherboard.

From looking at the nVideo website for this chip, it appears to be BGA mounted (ball grid array) which simply means that instead of using pins, the chip is installed by placing it on numerous small balls of solder, and then the whole thing is heated until the solder balls melt and the chip is mounted to the motherboard.

I know someone who has experimented with "re-flowing" the solder joints by placing the motherboard in a toaster oven and carefully raising the heat.

Sometimes it worked for a while, but in every case it did not last. He now only recommends replacing the whole motherboard.

Why yours works out the HDMI port but not to the local screen would suggest that that portion of the chip that feeds the HDMI port is connecting correctly
