G+_Bostjan Cadej
I know that somebody in Know How army is very network savvy - +Fr. Robert Ballecer. I think that many of us regularly watching KH show will much appreciate if you could explain or/and even show us on wrt54gl running dd-wrt how to setup this (it start in about 1h20m) I would really like to segment my home network and put on separate LANs WinXP machines, guests and my devices. Looking forward to this episode. Thank you.
G+_Ben Reese
I missed the exact chip they're using, but Steve said they were Qualcomm. The Linksys WRT54g series uses primarily Broadcom. Not that it's not possible on these routers, just unfortunately not covered by Steve's story.
G+_Bostjan Cadej
As I understood I think he mentioned that there is another chip inside. I guess I'll have to listen to it one more time. But isn't this possible due to software (dd-wrt) than hardware?
G+_Jason Marsh
I haven't watched the episode yet, but it sounds like you want VLANs on a WRT54G. It will depend on your hardware version. G+_David Wiggins
There was a KH that briefly covered Steve Gibson's 3 dumb routers scenario(the one you linked?). Some DD-WRT devices can handle multiple networks/VLANS. The main limiting factor would be the radio on it. You may end up needing another device far the access point for the extra network(s). There are also inexpensive APs that are VLAN capable. Still, a trio of 54Gs may still be cheapest. ?
G+_Ben Reese
Bostjan Cadej perhaps that's what he meant. I took it as features on the chip that weren't being utilized. There are several routers supported by DD-WRT, so I just figured he was talking about some of the other options.
G+_Bostjan Cadej
in this episode he is not talking about VLANs and 3 dumb routers scenario. It is something "better". I hope Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ will explain us more.
