G+_Justin Egan
Well I had my first soldering experience yesterday. Had to replace a bad motor in my Syma X5. I went with upgraded motors with brass gears so I replaced them all. After about an hour or so, partially melting the battery connecter, and burning the shielding on pretty much every wire. I have them installed and it's working great. I just want to thank everyone here for the help. Not only for the know how, but the courage to do it and not being afraid to break stuff. This community is awesome!

G+_Eddie Foy
Afraid to break something that's already broken? Mistakes are more valuable to the learning process then successes. G+_Justin Egan
Update: while flying it on my lunch break at work, one of the soldered wires broke loose. It immediately dived out of the sky on to the concrete. Resilient little things. Time to take it back apart and resolder. Practice makes perfect right? G+_Justin Egan
It is 60/40 rosin core. No heat shrink since I soldered to the bored
G+_Jeff Brand
Once you get some flight time, I'm curious to know if the brass gears make a difference in performance/sound.
G+_Justin Egan
Up and running. The brass gears didn't really increase performance but I hope it will increase longevity. Posting a video soon
