G+_Brian Stockton
I have decided to replace my ageing Watchguard firewall/router with a Synology RT2600AC but I am not having any luck finding information on configuring the RT2600 to use 802.1q (vlan) tagging coming from my network switch. I have spent a fair amount of time searching but have come up with zero information on this type of setup on the RT2600. I just fired off a support ticket with Synology but I thought someone here might have some insight?
G+_Akira Yamanita
I found a blog that has screen shots. https://lesterchan.net/blog/2017/01/26/synology-router-rt2600ac-review/ Is that not working? lesterchan.net - Synology Router RT2600ac Review
G+_Brian Stockton
Looks as if it only supports tagging on the WAN port(s). I shot off a support request and received this reply this morning. Not what I was hoping. :( ------------------------------- Hello Brian, The RT2600ac doesn't currently support multiple vlans or a trunk port. If you'd like, I can submit a feature request to our developers on your behalf to request this. Or you could send it directly yourself with the link at the end of this message. I can't currently give a timeline for its inclusion, but you can sign up here to be notified of updates automatically by email: http://sy.to/registersynologyaccount If you would like to request other features in the future you can use this form: https://www.synology.com/en-us/form/inquiry/feature Sincerely, Carl W Synology Tech Support -----------------------------
G+_Benjamin Webb
Ouch, I will stick to either building my own or hacking cheap routers. My only limitation is what the hardware can handle. I feel kind of disillusioned as Padre was promoting this thing and VLAN is a pretty basic feature necessary for security. I don't use it as I just have a guess wifi network where the guests are isolated from each other. I put anything sketchy on that network.
G+_Brian Stockton
I boxed it and returned it today. Padre's recommendation was the primary reason I purchased the RT2600. My fault, I should have checked the specs for myself. :(
G+_Akira Yamanita
That's disappointing. AFAIK most of the higher-end consumer routers have VLAN support. I guess that it could perform well otherwise but a feature omission like that should be mentioned for this audience.
G+_Rud Dog
Didn't see any recommendations for a router that offers all the nice features of the Synology router (interface) in another brand?
