G+_Dan Phillips
So glad that the new episode was on Windows 8 since I just got a new laptop. While doing the initial setup and downloading updates and Apps, I saw that nothing was downloading. Turns out others have had this issue too. In order for the updates and Apps to download over WiFi, you have to disable the Ethernet (RJ-45) port. Once I did that everything started working. G+_George Nixon
My mail app still won't sync with Gmail. Seems like every single thing works worse than it used to! Quite regretting paying for the upgrade, feel like we're all subsidizing Microsoft trying not to get swallowed by the tablet market. PS: just about to watch that episode, not sure I shouldn't just downgrade instead of un-8 my laptop Update: the things in the show kinda seem like fudges, I'm not sold. I don't want to tinker any more, I stopped using TweakUI back in XP and I don't want to go back :(
G+_Dan Phillips
The program shown were free or $5. Cheaper than a copy of win7 so you might as well give it a shot. If anything those programs are more or less a skin to allow you to use Windows the way your used to.
G+_George Nixon
Ah but I still have a sticker on the back of my laptop with a license key for Windows 7 Home Premium! Unfortunately I'm now looking into having a go at developing my own Windows 8 apps (such a dearth of them it may be like shooting fish in a barrel if the market ever takes off!) so I'm going to try and turn my frustrations into solutions.
