G+_Jason Stratman
I want to buy a quadcopter kit for my daughter for Christmas. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, I just want something that doesn't need FAA registration and is fairly simple for a newbie maker adult and a teenager to put together. Any suggestions? G+_Jim Hofmann
The Styma is still my recommendation for noobs.
G+_Jason Stratman
I was more looking for a kit that we could build together.
G+_John Sullivan
Hello Jason Although I agree with Jim re: learning to fly, for a kit build I recommend the one Padre showed in Episode 115. The show notes are a bit hard to read so I copied them into Notepad and added line breaks to make it easier. I think this is the project you are looking for. It's a nice project to build, but it's VERY responsive in flight, and again is not the best way to learn to fly. I bought a SYMA X5C (also listed in the Notes) for that, and it was a wise choice. G+_Nathan D
John Sullivan Would you know what the flight time of the quadcopter they build is?
G+_John Sullivan
I never timed it, but I believe around 6 -7 minutes. I upgraded mine to a 2200 mah battery. Flight time is not doubled (because of the extra weight) but it is better. Also went to two-bladed propellers instead of three giving somewhat less thrust but making it a bit easier to control. One last time: this is NOT the drone to learn to fly with ... it's very demanding compared to the Syma X5C ... you really have to pay attention and adjust the flight controls as needed.
