I should Know How to avoid this.

I spent about four hours out in the cold this afternoon, building my new raised beds in the garden.

At the end of it, when I only had four more screws to screw in, the battery in my Crapola Industries Cheapo 2000 electric screw driver died.

Well, I said, &%#@$%$&* to that. I'm going home. Cheap tools are not worth the money you spend on them.

Any more, I only buy Bosch tools. I have a Bosch 4 1/2" angle grinder that I've had for close to 40 years now. It's ground miles of steel and the only thing I had to replace was the cord. I took it apart thinking it might need some grease in the gears and they still looked like new.

They cost a little more, but you won't have to replace them as often.

Is/was your battery Ni-MH, Ni Cad, or Li Ion?

Makita, Bosch, DeWalt, Milwaukee, are high quality tools.  Go for the Li Ion powered ones.

You can choose from light duty  to heavy duty work-load tools in the manufactures line-up.

Cold weather will almost always reduce available battery power/life.

Carry spare batteries with you, and/or keep a spare battery on the charging device.

Plus, always carry with you a manual driver with an assortment of bits.

Good ratcheting manual drivers are available in your average hardware store.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Aaah, ha! Caught ya! Not changing your oil as much as you should! The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve "should" last for the life of the engine, if you change the oil and filter at proper intervals.

I worked for GM in the 60s where they made all the PCV valves and I pretty much made all the parts that went into the assembly.

The little invention made so much money for GM, that all the machinery used for production was paid off in 6 months!

It was also one of the biggest contributors in eliminating smog caused by crankcase fumes pollution.

And, it's 72º here in Arizona! Got me out of that Michigan COLD!
