G+_Ralph Mills
Notes from the family's IT administrator: Starting to set up a simple file server, I took an opportunity to map the home network. Yellow wifi symbols are the "n" wifi network, the Red wifi symbols are the "g" wifi network (the TWC router and my legacy "g" devices have a problem maintaining connections). We only turn wifi on these "g" devices for installing updates and downloading eBooks, no sensitive information. As anyone can see there are no power users (Gamers / Video editors) on this network, watching TWiT TV live or YouTube is the most intensive use these old systems see. G+_Arcturus Lancaster
Something to note is with the unsecured WiFi below the secure one could gain access to the secure network. One can easily work up a chain not so easy to go down. Need one more router to complete the 3 dumb routers setup
G+_Ralph Mills
I need to revisted that KH episode. I assume a need another "n" wifi capable router attached to the TWC supplied all-in-one and my the yellow "n" laptops can log through the new one. G+_Arcturus Lancaster
Yup basically like you did with the red network. Turn off WiFi on twc. Make sure subnet is different on all 3 routers
G+_Akira Yamanita
You might not need an open access point. Try setting the band to "standard" (or "20 MHz") instead of "wide" (or "40 MHz"). Using the wide band setting on the access point is often the cause of unstable wireless connections on older devices when encryption is enabled.? G+_Steve Martin
Curious, why aren't those devices on secure WiFi? I don't recall any Android tablets that don't have WPA/WPA2 capability.
G+_Ralph Mills
Trying to establish a "g" connection thru the TWC all-in-one is very unreliable. So I went back to the old blue router. Another comment said I can change the TWC box Wifi from wide to narrow and have better "g" connectivity on legacy devices.
