G+_Thomas Weller
What's "Wave 2 Devices"? Please enlighten
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
"Wave 2" is the next implementation of 802.11AC -- It allows for up to 7Gbps. -- In other words... HOLY CRAP! :)
G+_John Mink
Looks like the name wave 2 is already in use yet they're not claiming anything close to 7Gbps >_< Am I missing something or are they building up to the spec (so to speak)? http://www.pcper.com/news/Networking/ASUS-RT-AC87U-First-Wave-2-80211ac-Router-Supporting-MU-MIMO-Technology
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
That's the consumer implementation of the spec... and not a very aggressive one --- http://blogs.cisco.com/enterprise/introducing-cisco-catalyst-multigigabit-technology-to-future-proof-your-network-for-802-11ac-wave-
G+_John Mink
Gotcha, would I be naively optimistic to ask if we have any idea when we'll be seeing the 7Gb versions on the shelf?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Well.. the AC spec has been penetrating MUCH faster than did 802.11N... so it'll be Enterprise-only (the super-high-performance version) till mid-year, then we'll start to see consumer models take full advantage of the additional bandwidth. G+_John Mink
That's cause it's not "draft-AC" :p If you're saying enterprise won't see that for 6 months, that says to me that we'll be waiting a while before it'll be in our grubby-little paws :(
