but where did the versioning come in? I don't remember Glacier having any versioning (but it's been a few years, I could be wrong), and everything else just seemed to be basic backup!

The software interfacing with glacier has to manage versioning (in the example Padre used FastGlacier.)

But then you're fairly tied to that one piece of software, no?

John Mink Somewhat, yes.  If it's storing files with standard file types and compression then any other program should be able to read the files back.  Not all programs are so nice (I'm looking at you Windows Backup!)

true enough, but then you've got 30 billion versions of the same dang file.... FOR EACH FILE that you'd need to sort through

That's the disadvantage/advantage of versioning. You'll have a lot of versions of the same file... sorted by date... which is what you want.

Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ (I keep trying +Padre and G+ gets confused!   Maybe +Nightpope ?)  technically yes, that's versioning.  But generally I'd think a service providing that would offer a slightly nicer UI than "ALL TEH FILES"

Glacier is just a big pile of storage. Any of the features you may be looking for would come from the client, not glacier... and there's only so much you can ask out of a free program. :)
