G+_John Mink
Reading up on the LG G4 (which I'm pretty much settled on) and I found an interesting article: "Here are the things the Verizon LG G4 doesn't have that other variants do" While none of these things they list are really deal breakers for me, it got me thinking.... could one migrate a phone to VZW from another carrier (let's say t-mobile) or vice-versa. Does anyone have any experience trying this? Would it be an awful user experience with the limited bands or does it not really show up? I'd appreciate any insights you all may have on this! link: http://www.androidcentral.com/here-are-things-verizon-lg-g4-doesnt-have-other-variants-do Additional thoughts: Both T-mobile & Verizon state that they don't prevent unlocking of devices in good standing, blah blah blah. So the only concern is whether the phone has the right frequency band. Looking at the G4, Verizon lists this mess of alphabet soup: CDMA/GSM/WCDMA/LTE; Frequencies: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, CDMA 1.9 GHz CDMA PCS/800 MHz CDMA, LTE Bands 4/13/2; Data Transmission: EVDO, EVDO Rev A, 1xRTT, LTE whereas T-Mobile lists: Quad Band GSM; LTE: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12; UMTS: Band I (2100), Band II (1900), Band IV (1700/2100), Band V (850) So it looks like they both share LTE bands 4,12 and different on the rest. G+_John Mink
Wayne Hobbins hrm, that's a good point. So the 4G data would work (at least, somewhat) but the voice wouldn't. I could see that being....problematic. Thanks for pointing that out!
G+_Eddie Foy
Vendors controlling the base OS and the (security) upgrades need congressional scrutiny. (don't want the feds actually involved, just to push them to do the right thing and avoid the feds meddling)
G+_Eddie Foy
i meant us the feds to scary the carriers into the right thing (but I guess your comment caries over too )
G+_Chris Maubach
I used a US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S3 on Verizon and had nothing but problems. Both are CDMA phones but Verizon's system would not let it ever use the 4G signal, and I often got 1x signal when a nearby Verizon-native device would had 3G. In short, I wouldn't recommend it.
