G+_John Mink
TL;DR: Is there any use for a still running old Graphics Card like the GTX 9800 (not 980, 9800) apart from using it for scrap? Full Post: I'm a bit behind on KH episodes (should I have started with "forgive me father for I have sinned"?) but I'm curious to know what you recommend for old graphics cards I mean, I've built a PFSense router, a NAS4FREE box (still working on #2), and a Linux "server", mostly out of spare CPU/RAM/MoBos. But I still have my old 9800 GTX Black Edition. It's working fine, but I just don't think it's worth the power it takes to run that card at this point! The only thought I had was to tear the card apart, maybe use the heatsink & such for a project? Just wanted to see if there's any benefit to keeping an old card like that intact before I start breaking ot down.... Thanks in advance?
G+_Reed Hanson
Here is a list of where most GPUs, fit in the grand scheme of things. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html The 9800GTX still has some life to it, faster then some of the new integrated processors still. G+_Eddie Foy
Hashcat! Can even run it on your PFSense box. When deligated to use just the GPU the CPU is barely used.
G+_John Mink
Eddie Foy? two things: 1) "hashcat" ^_^ 2) How would a PFSense box even use a GPU? I'd be curious if you could expand on that a bit. Plus I don't think of PFSense as being, well, ANYTHING intensive....
G+_Eddie Foy
John Mink PFSense wouldn't utilize the GPU, thats why stick it in there so hashcat can. PFSense running DPI would be rather intensive.
G+_John Mink
Oh, I gotcha. Hashcat + PFSense in one box! That did not click when I read your comment earlier
