G+_Michael J
I have Comcast as an internet provider and currently rent my modem/router from them. I am looking to buy my own, Does anyone with Comcast have a recommendstion on what would best the best unit to purchase to replace. Going to use my own router with it. I dont have voip, but might want to leave that option open. Was looking at the Arris SB6190. Any thoughts?
G+_Eric K
Comcast has a list on their site of approved modems but any DOCSIS 3.0 should be compatible. If you decide to go with their VOIP service they are going to force you to use their modem. At least that was my experience in the past. http://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/ *Edit: Looks like you can now get modems that are compatible with their VOIP service through retailers. Color me surprised.
G+_Michael J
Yes, i got that site but just trying to figure out which brand/model would be best to use. VOIP is not requirement. will probably go with just a modem
G+_Eric K
I use a Motorola (now Arris) SB6141 and have never had any issues. Honestly, I would just look at recent reviews on Newegg or Amazon and base it off that. The 6190 looks to be just the latest version of what I have with a higher theoretical maximum down/up. The 6141 has a theoretical max down of 343 and 141 up which is fine for my level of service.
G+_Anthony Carlis
i am using the Arris SB6190 without any issues for over a year.
G+_Taylor Graham
The SB6141 is absolutely the bee's knees if you dont need more than 300mbit. If you're rolling gangsta on comcast's 500mbit package, there is a slightly more expensive model that will handle it. Both are bulletproof, just activate and forget. G+_Michael J
We have frontier (used to be verizon) fiber available here, but I've heard people saying that theyve had nothing but problrms with it.
G+_Tyler Pearson
I currently use the SB6121 but I have had it for years and the newer model is the 6141 that others have mentioned. I too have had no issues but now that im looking at them again my 4 downstream channels makes me wonder if i need to upgrade as well :p The 6190 might be a bit overkill unless you are going to use all 32 downstream channels but thats also depending on your service and Comcast. If you have the money go for it. If you dont think you will need it go for the SB6141.
G+_Edward miskowiec
Arris SB6183 has been a really good fit for me.
G+_Robert Foster
I had sb6181 for two years. I thought it was all I needed. Then TWC uped the rate to 300 Mbps at no charge. But they did it by doubling the number of channels to 16. So I got the netgear cm600 which is what Steve Gibson recommended last year. It works great. G+_Bill Boelke
I've had the Zoom 5341J model cable modem 3.0 Series 1094, for a few years now. It does great and have had no issues. I elected to not upgrade to the fastest package comcast has, because my 3 streaming devices, game consoles, several pc's, tablets and smart phones never skip a beat on the Blast service. Granted the pc's and streaming devices are all wired and only the laptops, tablets and phones use wireless. Every time I test it, I'm getting 90Mbits down and 12Mbits up. G+_P. J. Murray
I'm using a TP-Link TC-7610. Haven't had any problems and it was cheap.
