G+_José Ángel Lozada
Hello everyone. I have a issue with a Macbook Pro 2012. I bought it used and I removed the hard drive after testing it because it wasnt part of the deal so I know for a fact that the computer works. I installed an SSD and since I dont have any OS install media I tried using the Internet recovery. The first time it worked but I had to quit because it would take a lot of time I didnt have to download and install the files. Now whenever I try to load the internet recovery it doesnt work at all, doesnt even load it stays on the grey Apple screen with the spinning beach ball on the corner. I tried leaving it for a while but all it does is shut down by itself. I tried contacting Apple but they said I should take it to a genius bar and they would install the OS but we dont have Apple stores here, only resellers and they cant help me either. I tried searching around but I cant find a way to create recovery media on windows and thats all I have acess to :( Am I screwed?
G+_Martin Smith
Sounds like the upgrade partition has been damaged imho. Try booting whilst holding CMD+V to see what the boot up sequence is getting stuck on. I'd suggest getting hold of an OSX install disk, or making one on another Mac by downloading the install from App Store and burning InstallESD to disk, this will allow you to reinstall for sure. Another thing you may be able to do is boot to the old disk, if you can attach it via USB/FW assuming you haven't wiped it already.
G+_José Ángel Lozada
Sadly I dont have the old disk since the previous owned had to keep it. All I have is the blank SSD. I dont have access to another Mac but will try to find someone with one to see if they can help me.
G+_Will O'Meara
I would reformat the hard drive and try again. Can you do that from the recovery? If not I would find a way to run gparted on it, maybe on a Linux machine or as a live CD.
