Hey there Know it alls I have a quick question.

My ISP changed my dumb cable modem for a Modem/Router combo unit. I plugged it in to my fancy pants router (BUFFALO AirStation Extreme AC 1750) and didnt make any changes (because lazy). Its working fine but now my NAT in games has gone from Open to Moderate. Should I have disable something on the modem or router instead of being lazy and just plugging it in without changing anything?

José Ángel Lozada you will need to call your isps support center and set up your LAN together over the phone as the modem/router gui is probably locked down..

Also, did your isp install the arris in order to install moca enabled devices?

Pepe La GUI wasnt locked down, it even had the default Arris admin/password for login! (I changed that now). I set the modem as a bridge like John Bright said and disabled the wireless, firewall and others stuff and now Im getting NAT Open.

I called and asked if they could just give me one like the old one and they said no because they are switching everyone to the Arris TG862A since they are ending support for the older models they had.

I also checked my bill and Im not paying rent for the equipment. Should I invest on my own Gateway or just stick to this one since its working fine (now)?

José Ángel Lozada? If your able to access the GUI and apply settings that stick, and not default to factory settings, and your router is now operating to your standards, I would stick with it.

Unfortunately for me, it's on lock down, leaving me unable to even do simple changes such as turn off wifi, or even allow N speed compatibility for that matter.

Good to hear you got yours set up tho.?

Yeah, when I upgraded data speeds with TWC they upgraded me to a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/router combo. It had 2 interfaces: the router side on the default internal IP and the modem on the standard 192.168.100.1. Router side was set to the Arris default PW but the modem side has a daily changing password. I found a site that will generate the single day passwords, but haven't tried it out yet.
