G+_Robert Marshall
Hi all. I'm trying to get my head wrapped around what may options are should I decide to get an HTC One, to replace my aging HTC Thunderbolt, which is starting to give me all sort of keyboard entry problems. First off, I'm on Verizon. Additionally, since I am grandfathered into the unlimited data package I am going to want to pay the non-contract price. I had hoped to maybe get the 64gb version, since I'm leery about it not having the microSD card in it. However, I cannot seem to find that offered anyplace, no matter the carrier. Additionally, I'm leaning toward the unlocked/Google Experience version, rather than Sense 5. (I also like the snazzy new blue color they came out with. But, that is apparently only through Best Buy and I have issues for paying an additional $100 just for a color, which might be covered up with a case anyways!). So with all that said, do I order it directly from Google? When I poked around the Google Play Store, it allowed me to put one in my basket. However, at no time did I get a query as to which carrier I'm on. I don't want to order something only to find out I ordered an AT&T version by accident. Any rumors of Black Friday specials coming up that would prompt me to wait till Thanksgiving? Later, Robert
G+_Derek Duncan
You cannot use a Google Play edition device on Verizon.

G+_Robert Marshall
Thanks guys! I didn't think the DE was available at all. Will have to check into that, though I bet the price is going to be even more prohibitive.
G+_Robert Marshall
Thanks! I guess I will wait to call them and make sure that's the case. I started an order just to see how it works. However, it never asked me for ANY carrier up until I baled when it wanted my personal info.
G+_Robert Marshall
Jon Labbe I was wondering about that myself. That'd be cool if I could simply pop a different micro (or does this use a nano) SIM in for whichever network I wanted to use it at the time. Maybe Gina Trapani could chime in on that aspect, since I think she has one of the Developer Editions?
G+_Robert Marshall
OK, so I called HTC today. They said that as long as your carrier of choice is on one of the supported frequencies, the Developer's Edition will support it. Now, the next question is about getting a micro-SIM for VZW. Late last night I called VZW Tech Support and the guy had know clue what a Developer's Edition was and insisted they always ship SIMs in their device. I explained I wanted to bring my own phone. But, that just confused the guy more, and he said they always ship phones to their customers with SIMs already in the phone. Assuming I decide to go this route, what are people in a similar boat doing to get SIMs?I saw a SIM in Amazon for $7.00. Granted, it seems like a pain to pay for it when VZW is going to be making money of me (albeit under non-contract). But, if it simplifies matters, what is $7 after one spends $650 on a phone! ;-)
