G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Hey my fellow geeks and builders! I have a quick question. Do I need a voltage regulator between the battery and this servo controller? I can't get my motors to spin up but they make a nice sing song when i plug the main battery in. G+_610GARAGE
Yes. Normally, the esc would provide the 5v, but, assuming you're using the esc that Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ used, then they don't have a bec(voltage regulator) onboard. You will have to provide your own. Also the leds on the controller will light up when it has power. G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
They lit up w/ the 11.1 volt. Don't think I fried anything though.
G+_610GARAGE
You probably did. Sending 11 volts probably wouldn't release the magic blue smoke, but will fry the ic. Sorry. A good rule to follow, if it is a server connecter (ie those 3 pin headers) its 5v only. Not always true, but it's a good rule to follow.
G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
If I connected my esc's would they also be damaged?
G+_610GARAGE
I don't know. Those esc are opto coupled. So it is possible that you blew out the couplers. But it is also possible that the 11v never made it to the esc.
G+_Carlton Dodd
If they still "sing", the ESCs are probably okay. BTW, the most probable cause for them not spinning is that you haven't armed the controller. Either through a configured switch, or a joystick position combination. G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Carson Black Yes all 3 lights light up on the tester. Just doesn't do anything when I turn the knob.
G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Thanks Carson Black . I've got some bec's I can hook up and see if it's still working. Or just find a 5v battery. Otherwise I'll order a new tester.
G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Ok. Thanks Wayne Hobbins . I'll solder up the bec later this evening and test it out.
G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Yep, it's fried. lol. I ordered 2 more but I think my flight controller will come in soon. Might just be able to test with that, huh?
