G+_Michael Keepper
Jason Howell? Got my Project Fi Invite last week. Ordered the Project Fi Sim card and received it Saturday, but could not activate Project Fi on my new Nexus 6. I ordered it over a month ago and it was shipped with 5.0. Turns out you need at least 5.1 to activate Project Fi. Bummer! I complained to the Project Fi Support Team about it. Lo and behold! 2 days later my Nexus 6 updated Bing, Bang. Boom! To 5.0.1, 5.1, and 5.1.1, so I was able to finally activate Project Fi. Loving it so far. Once I had 5.1.1, and I inserted the Project Fi Sim card and the activation was very simple and only took about 30 minutes. It will be interesting to see how the SMS texting works as Messenger replaces Hangouts as the default SMS app. My Google Voice number was ported with no problem. I was already using it as my default number for all my Nexus devices already, so it should be seamless. I will give an update later of my experience. Love All About Android on the Twit network. Best wishes!
G+_L I
I just don't get why they would force you to port your GV number. It takes away all the usefulness of GV to port it back to a carrier - in this case Google.
G+_Michael Keepper
I read that Google Messenger was supposed to replace Hangouts as the default SMS app in Project Fi, but my texts are still coming through Hangouts. I will be asking Project Fi Support about this issue.
G+_L I
Do you have Hangouts as your default SMS app?
G+_Michael Keepper
I am still using Hangouts as my default SMS app. It is still working fine. Nothing has in through Messenger yet. Maybe they have not made the switch yet. My other Nexus devices are still using Hangouts, but they do ID the Number as Project Fi instead of Google Voice. No problems yet.
