G+_Andreas Ebbert-Karroum
I need to get a new phone. My contract is running out, and I'm still on the Galaxy Nexus. My provider (vodafone germany) offers for example the S5, HTC One M8, LG G2 or the Xperia Z2. I ruled out the S5 for no particular reason, since I've never used one (I think I dislike their bloatware and general approach to Android). The LG G2 ... seems to be outdated with the G3 already peeking around the corner. So I really need to decide between the Z2 or M8. What I like about the Z2 is it's water resistance, since I always track my workouts with runkeeper, and I hate to wrap my phone in plastic to protect it from the rain (yes, I'm running also when it's raining). I would like to have a great camera (favoring the Z2 for that) and good speakers (as I regularly use the phone to listen to some music, when I'm somewhere in the house ... hanging some clothes in the cellar, doing some work somewhere). Also, I'm a developer, and don't want too many modifications and regular updates (I guess that tilts i more to the M8). From my current Galaxy Nexus, they are probably both a major improvement, just wanted to ask if you have any thoughts pro/cons regarding the M8 vs Z2. Thanks! G+_Calvin H. Phillips III
I don't know if any phone outperforms the M8 on sound.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
They are both great devices, and I don't think you'll go wrong with either (though I would suggest the GPe M8 over the normal one). That being said, what about the Nexus 5? It has the best update cycle (instantly from Google), the speakers are pretty decent, and you can actually get some pretty good shots out of the Nexus 5 camera (provided the subject isn't moving too quickly due to Time-to-Focus and shutter speed). G+_Andreas Ebbert-Karroum
Calvin Phillips The Z2 apparently has front facing speakers, too. But I haven't heard them yet IRL
G+_Andreas Ebbert-Karroum
I would favour the Nexus 5 any time, but you cannot get it with Vodafone (same goes for the M8 GPe). And since this will be part of a company's contract, I am kind of bound to their offering. (With some hassle, I could make it happen, but as you say: the M8 and Z2 both are probably nice phones, too)
G+_Calvin H. Phillips III
Andreas Ebbert-Karroum the Harmon Kardon speakers are some of the best is the reason I say that. In truth my upgrade is also coming up. With the new 805 cpu/gpu chip so close to being released. I know if I go ahead now they'll release the first phone with it, and then I'm stuck. I'm not real big on the latest and greatest but I am going to hold off till they release it. I'm hearing talk of it being mid year so what's another month or two. G+_Uk Bajan
Andreas Ebbert-Karroum OK its part of a company contract rather than personal. That was not clear from your original post. I couldn't figure why buying the N5 was not in your shortlist particularly as you would appreciate the prompt Android updates. Basically your two shortlisted phones are fine but based on previous history you will be stuffed for getting prompt updates which ever you choose. Z2 for all weather use, M8 for good sound and nice HTC falavoured UI.
G+_James Kozak
Wow S5 is a awesome phone. You fall for everyone's bitching. You should pick one up and see it.
