G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Time for a new microwave. But I want to have some fun with the old one. Any ideas? ?
G+_Black Merc
Reuse components... Timer circuits - timer(no-brainer), transformer - replace secondary coil with high current to make spot welder, door switches, cabinet - (diy nas) rpi + hdd(s). Crazier ideas are out their on YouTube.

G+_Michael Shada
Microwave things you shouldn't. Be very careful and do this outside away from the house. Things may explode! or catch fire! Do this at your own risk! And for God's sake do NOT use it as a pet dryer!!!
G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
Thanks. lol. Yeah I'm doing my research. And I know to short the capacitor before I touch anything :)

G+_Black Merc
Brian Gipe avoid multimeter testing on high voltage(secondary). High probability of multimeter damage.

G+_Giligain I.
• repurpose the transformer and hack it to be used as a spot welder. I have a couple of these micro's and failing to funnel some time towards this hack for myself. https://plus.google.com/110690680341063574122/posts/8oZeo3W54zP

G+_Giligain I.
Black Merc Today: carpenter, power washer, & plumber Tomorrow: painter? Or scape'r or more carpentry...with a touch of plumber, unless I can't get the sink basin drain replaced...that's a mighty large retaining nut underneath–me thinks using a oil filter clamp might fit/work. G+_Scott Boggs
One time, I had an extra microwave, and I thought "screw it, I'm gonna blow this up." So I got out a really long extension cord and a can of ether, set the microwave to five minutes, started the camera and.... Nothing. It didn't even spark much, if at all. I was so fucking disappointed. True story.
G+_Black Merc
Scott Boggs you were expecting the 'Hollywood' effects(Batman movie with Cat Woman)... Most movie events are done for show(and control) and rarely ever happen in the real world

G+_Dan Hockey
The HERF gun was on Outraguos act of science. Their search function doesn't work worth a damn so I can't find that show.
G+_Ben Reese
Lots of good hacks on YouTube for the transformer. Tannerite would make for a very fun video once you get all the important components out.
G+_David Wiggins
Yeah, my microwave is in its last legs, too. I've been wondering the same about what can be done with whatever still works. I'm thinking a Jacobs ladder or van de graffe generator. I also saw a light bulb plasma ball a while back. All of those depend on the transformer. There emitter is probably worthless on mine, so that'll likely be scrapped. I would like to see an episode on things that can be done with salvaged enameled magnet wire from things like transformers.
