Hey Padre! Did you get a look at this at NAB? Blackmagicdesign had an SDI to Arduino device! This might be just what I need for the Pan-Tilt-Zoom project we discussed on The New Screen Savers!

Just to clarify for those who don't watch The New Screen Savers, I have a small business shooting concerts.

I bring in 8 cameras - 1 Canon XH-A1, 4 Canon HF-S200s, a Canon HF-S100 and 2 GoPro Hero 3+. The GoPros are on stage, one by the keys, and one on a microphone stand just over the toms on the drum kit. I tie into the sound board to get the direct sound, as well as a pair of shotgun microphones to capture the crowd and get a better sound balance than the board alone can deliver.

I shoot video on every camera to their SD cards and to a hard drive in the case of the XH-A1, then synchronize them afterwards using the audio waveforms and the inevitable camera flashes. I edit in Grass Valley's Edius which has better support for multicam than anything I've seen.

Most of the concerts I shoot are for various locations of The School of Rock, an after-school program for kids age 8 to 18. This means the musicians vary in height from barely more than 3 feet tall to over 6.

In order to capture the action, I'm down by the stage with one of my HF-S200 cameras, but in a SoR show, the number of musicians will change every single song. So I have to run to the back of the venue, where my cameras are, and re-aim them! Then back to the stage to shoot handheld for the guitar solos, etc.

So I called in and asked for advice on buying, or (by preference) building a pan-tilt-zoom system, ideally one where I can see the video from four of the cameras at once, and adjust the positioning of each and zooming in and out - to save me the hassle of running back and forth.
