G+_Midwest Concert Video
Hey Padre! Did you get a look at this at NAB? Blackmagicdesign had an SDI to Arduino device! This might be just what I need for the Pan-Tilt-Zoom project we discussed on The New Screen Savers! G+_Midwest Concert Video
Just to clarify for those who don't watch The New Screen Savers, I have a small business shooting concerts. I bring in 8 cameras - 1 Canon XH-A1, 4 Canon HF-S200s, a Canon HF-S100 and 2 GoPro Hero 3+. The GoPros are on stage, one by the keys, and one on a microphone stand just over the toms on the drum kit. I tie into the sound board to get the direct sound, as well as a pair of shotgun microphones to capture the crowd and get a better sound balance than the board alone can deliver. I shoot video on every camera to their SD cards and to a hard drive in the case of the XH-A1, then synchronize them afterwards using the audio waveforms and the inevitable camera flashes. I edit in Grass Valley's Edius which has better support for multicam than anything I've seen. Most of the concerts I shoot are for various locations of The School of Rock, an after-school program for kids age 8 to 18. This means the musicians vary in height from barely more than 3 feet tall to over 6. In order to capture the action, I'm down by the stage with one of my HF-S200 cameras, but in a SoR show, the number of musicians will change every single song. So I have to run to the back of the venue, where my cameras are, and re-aim them! Then back to the stage to shoot handheld for the guitar solos, etc. So I called in and asked for advice on buying, or (by preference) building a pan-tilt-zoom system, ideally one where I can see the video from four of the cameras at once, and adjust the positioning of each and zooming in and out - to save me the hassle of running back and forth. G+_Midwest Concert Video
Well, hopefully Blackmagic will send you a pile of stuff to play with. Sadly NewTek has abandoned the low end of the market. Why should I pay 4k for a Tricaster when a Blackmagic ATEM will blow it away for less than a grand? G+_Midwest Concert Video
I know you folks occasionally put extras on your YouTube channel. Any chance they'll stick it up there? I'd really like to hear your take on this device.
G+_Midwest Concert Video
Hey Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ any chance of seeing the rest of the Blackmagicdesign stuff? It looks like you discussed their cameras and the SD card duplicator as well.
