The battery on the Coin is expected to last 2 years as per the FAQ. The battery is not user-serviceable, so you are looking at shelling out $100 every 2 years for the privilege. Moreover, it does not support EMV (chip-and-pin) so it will have very limited appeal outside of the US.

 

I do like it for the purpose of storing loyalty cards. But is it worth $50/year? Nope.

Your concern isn't new, Soham Bapat - people have had to deal with unreliable credit cards for as long as credit cards have existed.

 

Don't get me wrong, I agree that thus device has some pretty big opportunities for improvement. I'm just excited to see it - I think this will really drive some huge changes in the banking and lending world. ?
