G+_Dan Cooper
Alright folks, the latest Know How episodes got me motivated to move to SSD. The Hyper X drive Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ recommended is very tempting (great reviews and a decent price). However there is a Cruicial drive that is on sale for the weekend with very similar specs for $30 less. My question is 200MB/s write speed worth the extra $30? My gut says yes. Are there any huge differences in specs that I'm not seeing? Thanks for the help! G+_Taylor Graham
You should see what people are actually getting with that kingston drive. Those numbers are NEVER right when it comes to SSDs. My kingston KC300 SSDs benchmark like 150mb/s under what they advertise. The crutial drives are plenty fast and reliable, id probably just get that. G+_Arturo Cureno
I had a bad experience with Crucial SSD drives and not so sure if it's worth saving $30, I would rather buy Kingston or Samsung but not crucial ever again
G+_Happy Fuzzy
I've heard Terrible things about Kingstion SSD Drives. High failure rate. Great things about Crucial SSD. Just goes to show ya, it all goes by some people's experiences vs. many other things. Investigate.
G+_Dan Cooper
Thanks for the input so far! I'll dig around and see what's the best fit
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
In the past 2 years I've installed more than 30 Samsung SSDs that have all since been pulled because of issues. I have also installed more than 200 Kingston E/KC/HyperX drives and they're all still working. I've often said, avoid the "budget" lines. (The Kingston V line is what gets all the complaints.) But right now, Kingston is my brand.
G+_Taylor Graham
Per padre's advice I tried four of Kingston's KC300 drives, they were super slow. The V series drives were even worse. Was i just unlucky padre? I know you speak for their reliability, but what about speed? They're in a few servers at work where speed isnt a huge issue, so I'm still glad to have drives I can trust. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Taylor Graham I've run Crystal DiskMark, PCMark and ioMeter... never seen performance of Kingston KC300 going 150MB/s under the spec.
G+_Bill H. Sr. McMullen
My experience with Kingston has been mixed, and I now avoid Kingston. If Crucial put out a faulty product , that is just sad. My experience with several (less than one dozen) Samsung's , both Pro and EVO , has been without fault; not a millisecond of trouble. G+_Scott Baker
I have 1 OCZ and 12 intels. The OCZ went bad and all the intels have never had an issue.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
I had 1 OCZ... that's all it took for me to say, "Never again" ---- but I've heard that they've improved since being acquired.
G+_John Mink
I had 2 OCZ SSDs & a mushkin, but I've been having some nasty thrashing issues ever since Win8 came out (also when I bought them) .... The price/'normal' performance is great, but I couldn't recommend them....
