I am wanting to set up a media stream of sorts to accomplish a project.

I am thinking something like having a server that can push out images, videos, text slides, and even local live weather to various monitors in a local network.  I want to be able to modify the contents from one place and maybe even push different media to different monitors.

What kind of setup would I need?

I have looked into the various Media Servers but I think they only allow me gather the media and make it available to clients if I'm not mistaken.  I would then have to manage each client separately. I was thinking something like Xibo?  The thing is I'm not very  hardware smart, so I'm not quite getting what I would need at each monitor, could I get away with a raspberry pi?  The server end is covered as we have multiple servers available to host the server side of the application, but my question really lies on the client side.  What is the best bang for the buck, as I don't want to buy five separate computers to just sit at each monitor and only accept the stream from the server.

Have you considered chromecast for the client side? It could be a viable option if your "monitors" are HDMI level compliant. (For $35, chomecast are a good bargain for cheap clients. I am just not sure if your selected media server will be able to support chromecast) Otherwise, Raspberry Pi with the Pi Xbmc derivative (I can remember the exact name)
