G+_David Santos
Can't believe I missed out for so long! Catching up on some network episodes. I have some home surveillance cameras recording to a Synology NAS. I'm looking for an affordable cloud storage solution for their footage. I set them to record when they detect motion and I would like to, ideally, have that footage immediately uploaded in the event that my NAS is stolen or disabled. I heard of a similar setup where the person had their footage uploaded to Amazon Drive. I appreciate any suggestions from this great group. G+_Travis Hershberger
Backblaze B2 has a plugin for the Synology OS. It's also cheaper than anything other than Glacier, without the wait if you need to download anything. They just cut the download price in half as well. G+_Seth Leedy
Just recently got onto B2 as well. Using the linux tool duplicity to backup.
G+_Rud Dog
I see Backblaze B2 offers Mac and PC Apps and never used duplicity is it complicated for use on Ubuntu? Still reading how this works and would also like to move my video security files up to the cloud.
G+_Jason Brown
I'm not sure if this is a viable option. But I always fantasized about setting up a mutual (and encrypted) offsite backup exchange, between me and a friend or neighbor. Ideally I'd love to bury a fiber line or setup a point-to-point between an adjoining house.
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Brown Mentioned that to my brother-in-law but could see the hesitation in his eye maybe he didn't want a black box sitting in his home?
G+_Travis Hershberger
Rud Dog Duplicity is command line only right now. It works well, and I don't think it's that complicated (it's what I use to backup my home lab box to B2.) If you want something even simpler, then I'd recommend Duplicati. Duplicati runs a local web page interface, so it's easier for anyone to manage.

G+_Seth Leedy
Just in. Backblaze is pleased to announce that, effective immediately, we are reducing the price of Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage downloads by 50%. This means that B2 download pricing drops from $0.02 to $0.01 per GB. As always, the first gigabyte of data downloaded each day remains free. G+_Ben Reese
Seth Leedy I still have the problem of 6 TB worth of data I need backed up off-site. B2 is $5/TB per month and I have a hard time justifying $30/Month total. Unless there's something I'm missing about their cost.
G+_Ethan Courtney
That really looks so good right now then I would love to have that setup in my house
G+_Rud Dog
Ben Reese It would great if two people could find imprentrable disk box that was fire rated and tamper proof. Each person would store the other persons data. Only drawback downloading backups would suffer from the speed of the internet.
G+_Ben Reese
Rud Dog that's one of the reasons I want to try spinning my own off-site backup. Initial backup can be done on the local network then moved off-site. CrashPlan took me over 6 months to do the initial upload. I dread the thought of maybe having to do that again.
