Mohammad Hamzeh that space was probably a system reserved volume by the previous (or even previous to previous) OS. It may have also been a recovery volume if the computer is a Dell or HP. Windows won't use volumes that are tagged "reserved" unless you have "cleaned" the drive with Diskpart prior to installation.

If you really want to use the entire drive then I suggest you capture an image of the drive (Acronis is a good product and relatively cheap but there are other imaging or cloning products out there) to an external usb drive, then wipe the drive with diskpart (boot from an installation media such as Win7 or 8 cd or dvd to the command prompt), clean the partition and then boot to Imaging software again and restore the image and choose to use the entire volume.

If you have never used imaging software before I recommend you practice on non-essential systems first so you don't loose your existing OS.

I do this all the time for users when they want to increase their boot drive with a larger drive. No need to reinstall.

Good luck!

Keith Mallett thanks for the reply :); so much work for so little gain i guess i could replace the ssd with the original hdd that came with the laptop and use the caddy that came with the ssd to reformat and allocate as an external hard drive, but i'm a little lazy especially after  waiting for days to finish windows update lol. but again thanks for the reply

Michael Belew actually i noticed this unallocated volume with another (recovery volume) while i was doing a fresh install of windows 10, i was able to format and merge the recovery but was not able to do so with this one; i'll try using EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition and see if i can merge the two, will keep you updated with the results, hope i don't have to use an iPad to comment here if the process went downhill lol

Mohammad Hamzeh OK good!

SSD - Very good choice! Look on Amazon, the Kingston's have been on sale. I replaced one of my server's boot drives with SSD and it fly's!

Reserved Partition - Windows 10 won't use them during install unless it has been cleaned. Not sure if EaseUS will do it but you can do it from an elevated command prompt on your existing OS if you want:

DON'T USE "CLEAN ALL", just select the partition you want to clean.

Michael Belew is correct. You can change the drive in your Win10 computer and restore from an image or reinstall and MS knows it is the same computer. Just don't replace the motherboard and the drive at the same time..

great, so i tried merging using Easeus software, didn't work, then i tried MiniTool partition wizard and worked great after a reboot let's hope i don't face any side effects later :), the funny thing is that i've just noticed the added partition named recovery made after i updated my windows 10 to the 1511 version so i guess windows 10 like to do so every now and then
