I have the same problem. I'm on Verizon and I when I'm done with my contract I'm probably going to go the Moto X route depending on what else comes out by then and how Verizon try to screw me. I really don't want to get rid of my unlimited account. I presently am willing to keep my Droid RAZR (with all of its slowness).

I didn't want to part with my grandfathered data either.. But I would lose out on my 20% company discount when going month to month. Making my bill closer to 175 instead of 160. So I've opted for a Moto G on tmobiles 30$/mo 5gb deal. Couldn't be happier. Use WiFi at home and data when I'm out and I haven't gotten close to 5gb yet. And I'm saving over 100$ a month lol.

I didn't see anyone else mention it so I'm just going to throw it out there. If you have a family plan and a line doesn't have unlimited, you can transfer your upgrade to that line to get it subsidized, activate the phone, and switch simcards and keep your unlimited data. If you don't have a family plan, maybe you can add a line for a $10/month feature phone then move the upgrade and switch back the plan once it's activated and simcards switched. They can help you with this in the store. It's not really a secret but usually they won't just offer you anything you don't ask for. I know it's a process but it may be worth it depending on your situation. I usually use 30 to 80 gb a month, so there's no way I'm going give up my unlimited on Verizon and with 5 lines, I won't be paying full price for upgrades either.

I hope this is helpful for some of you, good luck.

Jason Hatcher I've done that for 2 of the 6 lines I have already. I'm at +69gb already with more time left in the billing cycle. I won't give up unlimited either. But I'm happy with the coverage and the LTE so I don't consider myself stuck. I drive a truck over the road also. So AT&T is the only other carrier with coverage suitable enough for me not to be without a connection. I'm definitely not ever going back there if I can help it.

Michael Bowen awesome! Spread the word and make everyone a power user! I also do otr hotshots all over Texas and Louisiana and sometimes surrounding States. I haven't had many problems with Verizon's service except when I'm like 20 miles out little roads in the boondocks long ways from any civilization. Not good when you're almost out of gas but now that I get 70 mpg from my Honda Insight, I haven't had any problems with that. That reminds me, I need to download some offline maps, just in case cause nobody gets gps in some of the places I go! ????

Jason Hatcher and Michael Bowen

I, too, am grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. When I got the Note 2, I added a line without data to get the upgrade price. Some months later my wife was due for an upgrade, so I tried to do the same trick. This time they told me they could not do it as they "closed the loophole" that let them do it. So, I bought the phone outright.

At this point, I'm waiting for my Note 2 contact to expire and will be taking my business to T-Mobile!

INB4 - I know they're paying ETFs now, but I just bought my wife a MotoX for Christmas. I would have to buy a new one without losing my shirt on the one I already have.

Joseph Cappellino But it slows down to edge network speed after 2gb. I have a true unlimited, no cap, no slow down plan for 2 phones with Verizon. Plus I use FoxFi to turn my phone into a WiFi hotspot with no tethering plan required and uses the phone's unlimited data. I've checked everywhere. No one can match it. Plus, since I drive OTR, T-Mobile can't keep up with all the places I go.

Michael Bowen - Yeah, but they're definitely working on it!  Hopefully, within the next two years, the little engine that could will be rolling down the hill at full steam!

Keep on pushing T-Mobile!  You're doing it right!  I guarantee that if you had the same, or better, coverage than AT&T, you'd be beating them hand over fist!  As it is, I'm sure you're climbing faster than any of the others!

Joseph Cappellino I had T-Mobile way back when they started out as Omnipoint. Because their high speed is great when you can get it, and also because they actually give you a better price on plans when you find one that works, and now that they offer a truly non-throttled unlimited plan, I always keep my eye on them. Verizon still has the best coverage and their LTE is just about everywhere they already have coverage. But they are pricey. But I really hope T-Mobile keeps doing things the way that they are. It pushes the other carriers to keep up. So I still benefit even though I can't switch.
