G+_Richard Tan
How Carbon can do Backup Restore without Root Sorry if this was mentioned but I just watch the latest All About Android and notice you touch upon Carbon and rootless backup. Gina Trapani made a good point because the data is store for apps are sandbox, well it is store on the root partition and only apps associated to the partition can access it. I just watched the video (included in the post) and it was mentioned that a software was needed to be installed in order to do it. As soon as that was said I knew how it is done: ADB (Android Developer Bridge) provides a way to pull the data and push it back, so I believe this is the way the Carbon app will do it as it requires a installation on the desktop. FYI only ICS above support this I believe. Alternatively, there is a simple backup tool available at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36499906 that does the same thing. What I do hope we get from Key Lime Pie is a built in solution that solves this problem once a fall all. There is a issue raised on the Android Issue Tracker. Everyone should follow it so that we get a baked solution from Android. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17831
G+_Bradley Chasse
Good point on key lime pie possibility. I had bad luck with titanium backup. Especially when restoring between different android versions. I always have root but I hope carbon works better.
