G+_Duncan Jaffrey
Flash pole. I can't stand my M7 any longer (its got a funky ROM ect) so I'm getting a Moto G to see me through until something better comes along. do I get a first gen G and accept the 4.5" screen and the knowledge it most likely wont get an update past M but get LTE or do I get a 2nd gen, get the lager screen, duel speakers, more likely 2 years of updates (not that I will be using it in 12 months hopefully) and accept 3G/ HSPA data speeds???? please post your reasoning if you have time. thanks :)
G+_Michael Atkinson
I would say first gen only because it is basically the same phone and way cheaper. I picked one up for $20 sealed in box from a fellow that won it from work and didn't want it. (iPhone user) Both will get Lolly, and both are good phones. G+_Pradyumn Vij
I voted first gen as well, your subtext reads that you just want a phone that will bridge the gap between the M7 and your next flagship phone, get the cheaper of the two. The M7 will also get a Lollipop version of HTC's Sense if you want to put the original ROM back on.

G+_James Heuer
Due to your desire for a different phone in short order I'd say 1st gen. I've got one and it's never let me down yet. Also I've personally never seen any noticeable lag/slowdown even though it's "slow" by newer phone standards.
