G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Ok... I need some honest opinions here... I've been working on the Quadcopter segments for the better part of a month. I was originally planning to do 6 weeks, but as I've fleshed out the segments, they've gotten more and more detailed. I could still do everything in 6 weeks, but that would mean we wouldn't cover ANYTHING else in those 6 weeks. I could spread it out, but then that means we would have 12 weeks with Quadcopter segments. (and 2 other projects per show) What do YOU all want. I know there will be many who don't care about Quads and will get sick of hearing about them... What do YOU want to see?
G+_Walter L. McCormick
I would rather have a 12 part series on quads with other projects per show. Maybe a series on home/enterprise networking. Great show by the way!!!
G+_Morne Smith
Hi, I would also prefer the 12 part series...leaving some time for other sessions on other products and whatever maybe interesting the week. Otherwise it will get boring...and you may loose viewers that might not be that interested in doing a quad-copter thingy...
G+_Joe C. Hecht
Honestly, make it a show. And encourage Scott to make a show abut time and space. I am one of the folks that really do not care about the copter. No doubt, there is a ton of material, and a ton of folks that want to see the material, so you have material, you have interest, but it is taking over the "Know How" show. PS: Do something on the Beaglebone Black. The Rapberry Pi is getting stale.
G+_Jon Cooper
Yeah spread it out. Not really my thing so I would still see other stuff as well.
G+_Shaun Snee
I agree with Joe Hecht , make it a stand alone series of specials or something. If it has traction, then maybe an ongoing series on quads/RC.
G+_Travis Hershberger
I was squeing (Leo's term) when you first posted about the quadcopter project. Even tho I think it would be great, I agree with the others here that you should go with the 12 part series. Keep it open for people who aren't interested in the whole make culture. G+_Aaron Freeman
Maybe parts 1&2 on regular show and point us to another link to view the rest on our own time??? Special addition essentially.
G+_Joe C. Hecht
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ "Know How" has a pretty large audience, and with that comes a large variety of interests. It all comes down to trying to please most of the people, most of the time. To do that requires a lot of little projects that cover a lot of different interests, and constantly engage the viewers. Having a long, drawn out series on one specific interest simply results in a lot of folks tuning out. In case you really are reading this, please take value in my report that you lost everyone here at this office with the copter and (was it a truck) series? And for what it's worth, the folks here felt like someone was paying to supply YOU with the toys YOU want to play with, and we are just getting to watch YOU play with your toys. Seriously, do you really think the copter series is giving any real value to the majority of your viewers that are tuning in for "Know How"? In all honesty, you might do a much better service to your viewers, by giving out lots of simple tips and tricks that are truly useful. Remember, it all comes down to trying to please most of the people, most of the time. I'm just telling you what I am hearing from the office staff. I am sure there are people that love the copter stuff, just not here. And do not forget to place great value in the time that a viewer >invests< in watching your show. The advertisers certainly do, and so should you (and I am not saying you don't, I am just saying not to forget). Padre, it just cost me $50 in billable time to type this. I hope you gain some value from the content, and do not simply dismiss it as troll talk. As always, I tell it like I see it (or in this case hear it), and if I bother to post something, I really care about the subject, and what I post is usually so spot on, that it is either difficult or impossible argue with (ahh... TJoe's secret of posting has been let out of the bag). I cannot speak for all your viewers, but I can speak for about a half a dozen. I suspect that equates to "a random sampling". Figure that these folks are allowed to spend time watching your show, working, or both, and when it comes to stuff like the copter, they go back to work. There ya go. There is some really valuable info in this post. Where can I send the bill? Know How! Peace, Oh ya, please bug Scott to do a "Space Time" show. He stated taking about that stuff last week, and the char room went wild. The show would go big time. The time is NOW! Oh ya (2), I saw that you are into Stargate SG-1. Should I put you in my will to claim my REAL SG-1 jacket (dessert camouflage), complete with the REAL patches etc? ohhh! It's nice!!! Joe C. G+_Mike Robertson
12 weeks with other projects.
G+_Jerry Ham
Either spread it into 12 episodes or just do a TWiT special on quad copters (maybe 3 @ 1 hour specials). I'm sure the quad fans would like to get material any way you produce it and the rest of us who have no use for quads would appreciate being able to skip that content. G+_John Clarke
Do it over 12 parts and leave room for other things
G+_Jonathan Griffith
I don' t particularly care about the quad-copter, but respect those whom have an interest. How about 9 episodes with one other topic?
G+_Brent Burnette
Ditch the opening "news" segments and get right in the builds
G+_Jason Perry
I would love to see it on know how, coding 101, padre corner, and any other TWiT show that can get involved.
G+_Jason Perry
Really I am feeling a know how spin off on toys.
G+_Jesse “DJ Driver” Drive
I'd like to learn the Quadcopter build. However I would also say 12 weeks. The shows layout is great as it is and I would personally keep it that way.
G+_Chris Bickhaus
12 weeks...or keep it at six full episodes that are not aired consecutively and expect viewership to drop on the weeks with the full quad episodes (I, for one, will likely fast forward those parts anyway as I did the Lunch box project.). Give us more in-depth computer/pi/networking/microcontroller project coverage!? Thanks for all your hard work!
G+_Bob Buell
I think you are better off with 12 weeks. I assume you would give parts that you are using in first episode, so anyone who wants to jump in can do so.... you might be on the 3rd week before they get started anyway. G+_Joel G. J
Better content is provided over the time needed to show everything Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ . IT's like the wine your monastic counterparts make, but instead of tech ....., well, you know..... :) . I would be ok with 12 weeks.
G+_Paul Simard
Me too. Especially if you could forward to me some of that Benedictine special blend.
