G+_Marlon Thompson
Some reasons why I think the note 3 is a pretty good phone 1. It's the first phone to support us 3.0. This means faster charging times and faster file transfers 2. The first non nexus, non Google edition phone ( thanks Dale Dubnyk ) launching with 4.3. Samsung has been consistent launching their new phones with the latest android version and they have been pretty good in the last year upgrading their older models. The S3 will be making the jump from 4.1 to 4.3 in October. 3. It supports lte advanced. Yeah I know it's only available in a few places but it's still future proofing the phone. 4. The S pen features look really useful. Samsung has made the stylus cool again and have innovated (yeah I said it) on that feature year after year. How well it works will be seen in real world situations. 5. Nice camera and video features. Yes the bloated camera software is they with drama shot and the like but they have also included features like slow motion video capture 6. Sensors and radios. Name a sensor radio, wavelength, this device had it or supports it, if your a hardware guy or gal your gonna love this device 7. Faux leather. From what I have read the note 3 looks better than last year's model and stands out. Yes it's still plastic but at least it's got character. 8. My magazine looks interesting and seems to be a beer implemented blink feed. 9. Knox security. Samsung boasted that this is the ultimate byod and they backed that up. Since my IT guy loves the note series getting him to approve one for me might not be a stretch. Granted we still have smart scroll and the other crap Samsung loves to put on, thankfully they haven't highlighted that. I can't wait for the reviews but I'm pretty positive about this device
G+_Dale Dubnyk
Point number 2, i think you forgot about HTC One GPE and Samsung S4 GPE. They both have 4.3 already. Non Nexus devices.
G+_Marlon Thompson
Nope Dale Dubnyk those are Google Edition phones, Note 3 is Samsung's customised software with 4.3, there is a difference. LG and Sony also released phones this week and they are on 4.
G+_Dale Dubnyk
Google edition phones run off of the other phones framework. For example, the HTC one, still runs on sense. Still requires all of that work.
G+_Marlon Thompson
Dale Dubnyk the GE phones are running ASOP, on the hardware not the framework, the only addition to the HTC one is that it has beats audio but theoretically you could put beats on touchwiz, it does not require Sense. Here is a video for context.
G+_Dale Dubnyk
Marlon Thompson they are not running AOSP. They are running Sense and Touchwiz. XDA developers has indeed confirmed that upon ripping the OS apart. Thats why AOSP kernels will not work on GPE phones. They are simply the sense and touchwiz framework stripped right down to make it look stock android. But they are not AOSP one bit. Just appear that way. Take a read: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-editions-lackluster-or-leading-edge/ They are indeed packed with sense framework adn touchwizz. G+_Marlon Thompson
I stand corrected Dale Dubnyk so can I then say that the note 3 is the only non nexus, non Google edition phone running 4.3 ;)
G+_Dale Dubnyk
Yes, that would be correct. Technically there is a leaked version of 4.3 sense for the HTC one out there as someone did get it OTA to there device. But its not officially rolled out so yes the Note 3 will/can be the first one with 4.3. I do agree, samsung has been doing really well with keeping there stuff up to date recently. I will give them props for that.
G+_Lucas Nichols
I agree. I like it and think they did a good job. I will be getting one in January.
