There 's an awful lot of hate going on for our Multi-Rotor projects

Recommended Posts

There's an awful lot of hate going on for our Multi-Rotor projects. And some people seem to enjoy escalating to personal attacks, which is not acceptable. There are members of the KH community who are continually asserting that we only cover MRs... so I'm just going to leave this here for reference...

But that's the point, we don't actually cover MRs that much. It's a small percentage of the total material.?

It's one thing to say "I don't watch when you cover quadcopters". I have to accept that. That's part of me listening to the audience. It's another thing entirely to say, "you don't listen to us and you only cover quadcopters".

To be fair to the quad naysayers, when you have consistent topic that has been going on for months, it will seem like a lot. It could be %10 quads, and people will say that all Know How is is quads. I'm not saying to change anything, I'm just saying that I can understand their point of view.

However, to the anti quad people I would like to say this. Electro mechanical system, closed loop algorithms, soldering, embedded microcontrollers, embedded programing, battery chemistry, sensors, electric motor mechanics (for lack of a better term). All of these things are in quadcopters, but they are also in everything from robots to cars to home automation. You may not like mutli-rotor projects, but you should like those topics, and multi-rotor projects are an excellent way to teach such topics.

My personal opinion is that Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ  and Bryan Burnett are doing an excellent job at keeping the show balanced and interesting.

Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ maybe it's just the intro and/or show notes that give some people the false impression?

I can only speak for myself, but I just haven't been bitten by the drone bug.  So if the KH episode looks like it's going to be drone heavy--I'll just tend towards some other episode/podcast.

But there's a few things on this list that I wanna check out! So I'ma gonna go hunt down the episodes they're in...but I can only assume they're episodes which seem drone-heavy.

Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? and everyone else,

First off, I'd like to sincerely apologize if I offended or seemed to personally attack anyone. That was not my intention, not will it ever be.

Secondly, I REALLY DO love this show, and the entire network. I've been a Know-It-All since Episode 1, and my knowledge has truly been enhanced by both the show and this community (all the way from VLANs to RasPi to traffic "monitoring").

I really don't mind Multi-Rotor, in fact I'm looking forward to buying my own when my tight budget permits. I also enjoyed the discussions about flight dynamics, electronic motors, etc. I learn more about flight from Know How than I learned from college-level Physics. I had just noticed that a lot of content (not a whole lot, but enough to be noticeable) in this community had steered away towards quads, people's experiences with quads, quad builds, and quad videos.

I'm not saying " all you ever talk about is quads ", (in fact 10% sounds like a good figure - roughly 4 to 5 mins per week).

Keep up the good work, and sorry again if I caused any trouble.

Love the show. Don't ever change. I came to this show for the quadcopters, but I've stayed for everything else. If one segment per week is too much for some people, what can you do?

For a while there it looked like it was turning into "Know How to NAT a NAT" despite Padre's insistence that you shouldn't do it.

I have to admit, at first I wasn't into the show but then you started covering Multirotors and I started watching, which lead me to learning how to solder...that snowballed to 3D printing. I'm not a fan of the raspberry pies but only because I haven't found a use for them yet. I'm a professional wedding photographer and love that you are now covering dslr's! Point being, if I can find a use for the topics you cover I am hooked, even if it means watching portions of the show that does not catch my interest...eventually you end up creating a project that utilizes the things I'm not interested in and that's when I go back to previous shows to learn the basics of projects that did not catch my interests the first time around. I love learning new things and really enjoy experimenting with the basics we learn from the show. Eventually, everything comes full circle. Great job transitioning and keeping everyone's attention! Love the show!

As people said above, it is your show. I also understand that it behooves you to keep up the quad episodes while it is still a hot topic (you can always do networking episodes or raspberry pi episodes after the quad interest fizzles. That said, I'm sure you have noticed that when you do cover networking topics, it creates good discussion on this group, thus indicating an interest. Also, Brian Burnett has been talking about raspberry pi projects for awhile now. Did I miss them, our are they still in the works? It is also disingenuous to keep listing all the topics above as proof that you do not only cover quads. Here's why: the majority of the topics you list are news topics, or other topics that are given short shrift. Make a list of non-quad topics consisting of only in-depth how-to projects (like the arduino clock which was awesome), and it will be much shorter.

Again I understand that this is your show, and im not asking you to change it just for me. I would ask that you stop trying to deny the fact that this show has largely, but not solely, become "know how to quad plus hear about some other interesting bits." Own it.

I'd like to see some more (or a second) long running project(s). Did the Syma. Built the 250.  Built the 450, the octo in the wings.

Did we get the second installment on VLANs? The one on implementing them?  The first was really just what they are..  Don't think we got the follow up to the Gallium segment.

(I don't think news blips should be listed as KH topics.  not like we are going to make synth diesel at home)

No hate, just observations.

(I'm just greedy, I want a full separate show on quads, PLUS a standard KH :)  )

Thanks Padre! I happen to love the MR portion of the shows, but I understand others frustration. I have learned a great deal from all of the segments, and always patiently wait for the stuff I prefer.

Basically, I trust you to keep adding good content. Go by the show viewership, that is the only unbiased measure of your audience's participation.
