G+_Marlon Thompson
A few weeks ago Jeff Jarvis on an episode of TWIG had a few choice words for the CEO of cyanogen Mod inc in his bid to take down Google. At the time I was not in total agreement with his assessment, however I am now fully on Jeff's side. This move is also curious and not in a good way, their CEO is preaching a world where the OS is entirely customisable and away from Google's control, however to quote Ben Thompson"infinite customization and choice tens to result in a worse and more chaotic customer experience for most users, particularly the non-technical". That is why Google/Android has started putting some controls in place, that is why you are seeing changes to the play store etc. Blu is a hot commodity here in the Caribbean because they are cheap but more importantly you get access to Google. The Amazon app store is an inferior experience here and for maps everyone uses waze. I kinda think this will go the way of the Fire phone. G+_L I
It's an interesting theory that a non-Google android phone could exist with services/apps from Nokia and Microsoft starting to fill in some of the gaps from a few years ago. I'd love to see someone try it, but without the incendiary rhetoric. I think if done right it will act to keep Google honest. Amazon dropped the ball with the Fire Phone IMO
G+_Ben Lee
No android device will ever do well without the Google Play ecosystem, getting hold of apps is essential to anyone. This is something that I can't see any company addressing when they move away from Google's android backbone.
