G+_Charles Libby
Sometimes it is good to have content which I think I don't care about and then I find it answers a question I have had but didn't know related to the subject.
G+_Aaron Bishop
The completionist in me prefers fewer longer episodes but I do think you'd get better youtube viewership and it'd be easier to simply link to a segment if you do many short videos. +1 interested. G+_John Mink
It would certainly make previous episodes easier to find! But I'm curious.... Why the preference towards YouTube vs downloads?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
John Mink? Currently YT accounts for ~1% of DL. Bad balance... 50/50 would get us much more visibility on YT.
G+_Andrew Cox
Prefer the longer format.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Andrew Cox if Bryan Burnett was reading this, he would probably respond, "That's what she said"... but thankfully the KITAs are above that kind of banal humor. :-D
G+_Andrew Cox
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ For the same reason both are better longer. Big fan of staying power.
G+_Joel Belton
I'm a new member. I'd like more diy. Such as the led project with arduino. I'm a big fan of http://instuctables.com and http://makezine.com would love for this to be a video like diy projects. ?
G+_Joel Belton
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? would love to see more diy if possible. The knowledge of tech is nice but Diy is awesome. Also I had some ideas of future shows. Maybe a show on strengths and weakness of various microcontroller , FPGA, microcomputers and possible projects. G+_Aaron Bishop
Joel Belton I recommend Ben Heck for in depth micro controllers. For instance, he has a great episode all about FPGAs:
G+_Matt Leo
From what I've seen in all of my podcasting viewing years...this doesn't work out in the long run. typically meaning the ending of a show :( Doing 5 episodes a week instead of one/two a week has ruined/killed a few shows. In fact most have moved from the 1 a day to 1 a week to allow for real life to occur. Granted many of them tried shooting 5 daily's in one day and that typically failed. Being that this isn't a daily news show I don't see the need for daily episodes. Maybe you can release on youtube as five episodes and do RSS feeds of either one full length episode, or two half episodes. With the one episode containing 5 ads and the two episodes containing 2 ads each. This gives people three options of how to view. (5) 10 minute episodes roughly, (2) 25 minute episodes roughly. or (1) 50 minute episode roughly.
G+_Tyler Pearson
I prefer longer format shows but also think breaking it up would be easier to find specific projects and information after the fact as well as raise engagement and discoverability on youtube to increase viewership and the community. Hopefully if it does go daily the shows end up not being too short or rushed. Even with the current format sometimes i feel it seems rushed for some projects. An example that comes to mind for me would be the avoidance collision sensor segment. It would have been nice to see a working model using a whole string of lights. The limit to how many leds can be run before requiring external power. A way too have it activated by motion or maybe from the garage door opening and shutting off when it closes. Run 2 sensors off 1 Arduino and lights. Make your own multi pixel stick animation of some sort. Like a blinking stop sign. Maybe a followup will be done with what you ended up doing for your parents but may be a while down the road. Followups are nice but sometimes if the show is watched after the fact or is found on youtube they may never find or see followup episodes. I think I will take on this project myself and add on some of these features and share with the community which im sure if what your going for. Learning on our own is great and geeking out on it for weeks will be a blast but sometimes its nice to see a project from beg to end product in use.
