G+_Marlon Thompson
So with LG and Samsung saying no to adoptable storage I know you got questions. Wel friend of the show Jerry Hildenbrand has answers in this post from November last year. There are a lot of pros for not going with adoptable storage and I think that LG and Samsung made the better move here. If your a purist you may not like it but the general consumer just want am SD card to put movies and photos on and maybe hot swap it. http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-adoptable-storage http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-adoptable-storage
G+_Paul Werner
I'd side with the adoptable storage of course but another concerning thing is more and more companies removing the app drawer from their default launcher. Sure you can just throw on another but why is this trend starting? I'd rather not have all my apps splayed all over many home screens and I'm sure many users would agree
G+_Erving Velez
They should allow me to choose if I want it or not.
G+_tobby
I don't get the allure of removable storage. There's no reason why every phone shouldn't come with 64GB of onboard storage. Depending on the speed/quality of memory, a 64GB phone is only $10 - $30 more to produce than a 16GB phone. While we were all ridiculing Apple for their 16, 64, 128 tiers, they may have got it right. 64GB is more than enough for 90% of the people out there, power users creating the next "shot on iPhone" 4k movie that will be exclusive to Vimeo won't bat an eye going with the 128GB option. The 16GB model is strictly for those who don't use the smartphone as media consumption device (i.e. corporate use where the smartphone is used strictly for email, calls, and maybe a couple of apps). #64GBforEveryone
G+_Paul Werner
Erving Velez yep that is how it normally does work in base Android. It's an option. That's what makes this even more ridiculous that they decided against it
G+_Josh Frye
tobby The biggest reason I go with removable storage is the ability to have that data back if your device goes belly up. I two devices recently go belly up for two different reasons in the last few months and both of them had a SD card. That meant I was able to save everything that was saved to them, all my pictures and music files. Sadly my app data was not installed on them, so I lost all my saved games. As I refuse to attach many of them to facebook.
G+_Paul Werner
Josh Frye yeah that's a good reason but (and this is if you have a fast enough connection) you can get the same backup of that data if you simply use Google Photos and Google Play Music. I realize it's not everyone's choice (if they even have that choice) but when you have both of those backing up the same data you said you had on your SD it makes an SD less desirable. At the same time I do like it for more storage even if it can be lost if the device goes belly up (if used as adoptable storage) but when companies decide for us that we can't even have the option that's when I decide not to purchase from them. Mind you I'm talking like this as a Nexus user that can't use SD cards but I'm referring to if I wanted to pick up a non Nexus device. I'd be more likely to get one with the choice of adoptable storage than one with just plain SD storage
G+_Josh Frye
Paul Werner Oddly I can't get Google photos to back up properly it always hangs up and never actually backs up. SO I had to just shove everything that I pulled off my old phone and just upload it all. So I have copies on my current phone, the SD card in it and in Google photos. And nothing is being backed up or synchronized right now there.
G+_Paul Werner
Yeah that is strange. Maybe clearing the data on the Photos app would help. Not sure what else could block it from doing a proper backup though. I mean I've had it fail at times on a picture or two maybe (same with video) but not overall.
