G+_Kyle Boyington
Anybody have any ideas about how to physically secure my Synology NAS? Right now its just sitting behind TV. I am thinking about moving into a closet or something like that. I would like to put it in a safe, but I dont think that would work.
G+_Kyle Boyington
That would be awesome! But sooo expensive!
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Putting an array inside a thick metal box with no air circulation would lead to premature failure. Even solutions like the ioSafe N2 (which uses a 2-bay Synology inside its armor system) has ventilation baked into the unit. You COULD use the Kensington Lock port that is built into the case... G+_Pablo Oria
The funny thing about closets is that no one ever thinks about looking into them... hiding in plain site. Even when the fans run higher no one ever in several years of walking by has ever wondered. They are always surprised when I show them what's in there. G+_Kyle Boyington
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ I figured that would be a bad idea. I have seen people put external HDs in there, but thats different. I will probably try to get it into a closet and use the lock built into it. Do you guys have many closets with power available? G+_Pablo Oria
No, but it should not cost much to have an electrician put one for you if there is already a plug close by.
G+_Kyle Boyington
Pablo Oria Ok, thanks for the idea. That might be the quickest/easiest solution.
G+_Pablo Oria
Don't forget air ventilation... get the air moving in there.
