I personally use a Asus PB278Q which costs a few bucks more. I originally tried to find something in the bit lower price range, but I really missed checking the background light technology. So I ended up paying twice as the first bought monitor drove me mad.. The PB278Q really solved many problems. It has a crazy high resolution with really nice screen density and is definitely worth every buck.

There are list of the best on Maximum PC. If you want the best for the money get a Samsung 27 inch. You won't be disappointed.

Even though I'm using dell, I'd agree that Samsung makes a nice monitor for the price.

Don't rule out factory refurbs. Dell, Apple and others offer what I consider good-as-new displays for a little less. If you're on a budget, that might be the difference between settling for a lesser display that fits your budget.
