G+_Todd Miller
Chromecast advice I feel like a failure of a Google fanboy for having to ask, but given a Chromecast (which I don't own yet), an Android phone, and a TV with an HDMI port, can I cast YouTube? Sure, you say, but the trick is, from what I've read it requires a Wi-Fi connection, and there isn't one where I'm going. Can I tether my phone's connection as the Wi-Fi point? Or failing that, could I tether my phone's connection to my Chromebook and fling from that?
G+_L I
Yes. No tricks. Pull up the YouTube app, hit the cast button and select your Chromecast, find the video you want to play and hit play and voila.
G+_william reynolds
Same goes for Netflix. And play movies. Couldn't be any easier!
G+_Vance McAlister
And then get Koush's AirCast beta apk and cast all the things. :0)
G+_Vance McAlister
BTW, have you bought one yet? There is a reason I am asking.
G+_william reynolds
Also, grab the program Leon Nicholls made. Drag and drop local content onto it to stream to the chromecast. Works much better than going through the chrome browser! Video doesn't play on your computer. Only on the chromecast.
G+_Steve Douglas
Sorry, for since reason my question got cut off. I've edited it now. Please adjust your answers accordingly. :-)
G+_william reynolds
That might be possible. Pretty sure you can't use your phone as the Wi-Fi point and cast from it. I think you can use it for the Wi-Fi point and then cast from another device to the chromecast.
G+_Vance McAlister
Well, now you make things complicated. Yes, you can use your phone as as wifi hotspot and use your Chromebook for sure, but I am not sure about the phone.
G+_Vance McAlister
You should be able to use either your Chromebook OR your N7 through your phone's wifi.
G+_Steve Douglas
I read something about it being picky about the Wi-Fi connections, so I don't know if the ad hoc connection from phone to Chromebook would do it.
G+_Vance McAlister
Steve Douglas At the price, worth a shot. When are you going? Also, see the DM I just sent you.
G+_Matt Lyons
Let us know if you try it and how it goes. I'm really curious if this works. Would be awesome in hotels!
G+_Shawn Kurschner
I would like to play a podcast on my phone and have it show up on the TV with hdmi. Is that possible with Chromecast?
G+_Matt Lyons
Shawn Kurschner Depends. Where are you getting the podcast from? If it's on YouTube, yes. If it's on some other app, there is no official way to do it right now but there are workarounds.
G+_Vance McAlister
If you have a podcast app that will share the files over to Google Play, you can cast from there.
G+_Robert Marshall
Koush"s Aircast app had a two day kill switch so until he releases another Beta that's not an option.
