I am looking to build a webserver to host on my Synology Box to be a dashboard in my Kitchen to display my Calendar, RSS feeds, Weather and IP cameras. I will use a 19" monitor and a Raspberry PI for the display. Does anyone have any suggestions on building the site or anything? My website skills are very low.

Probably you could install worpress or joomla. Does it have a plugin?

But i think you will not solve your problem to display calendar, rss, weather by a webserver.

I think it would be a basic setup... I would use google calendar for the calendar,ip cameras, which is just a webpage.

synology supports ip cameras, google calendar is accesable through web browser ... you just need web browser. Not web server.

I agree with Bostjan Cadej?. The Pi has everything you'll need and it sounds like you might just need the Synology to host the IP cam stuff. Depending on your needs, you may not even need it for that.

 

What are your thoughts on the weather source? Do you have a weather station or just planning on using something like weather.com?

 

Install Chromium (or Firefox if you prefer) and use different tabs for each application.

Now that's pretty awesome and you probably would want a Web server running - either on the Pi or on the Synology.

While your Synology could act as the data collection point and page server, so could your RasPi. There are many ways to build this, largely dependent on the data sources you're combining.

 

The OpenHab links show some very cool UIs and might even have a simple framework that you can use. At a certain point, you'll need to get your hands dirty with some coding as it sounds like you'll need some glue to bring the data into a standardized format before presenting the UI. Time to start following Coding 101...
