G+_Vincent Panico
This what happens when I turn on my laptop it works sometimes when I let it sit over night and unplug it? Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 #toshiba
G+_Keith Mallett
I think your hard drive is dead. Can you remove the battery? If so unplug the power cord, remove the battery and let it sit for at least 2min, 5 preferably. Plug it in without the battery and see if you can turn it on and you can get into the BIOS or at least see the HP splash screen. The POST (Power On Self Test) will check the BIOS, CPU, RAM and video first before going to the hard drive, but I have seen system not able to POST with a dead drive so you may need to remove it to check. Is it under warranty?
G+_Vincent Panico
The HD is good I reformatted it to see if it would do anything but it didn't solve the problem, do I DL POST?
G+_Keith Mallett
Does it have a CD\DVD? If you can get into the BIOS see if there are any diagnostics that you can run
G+_Eddie Foy
There have been times I'll force a POST failure. Just mash keys, remove HD &/or RAM. (No, POST is built into the system. Its checks everything out before allowing the BIOS to bootstrap load from media)
G+_Eddie Foy
I don't think it sounds like the click of death. Sounded more like it was coming out of the speakers. (to me at least). But Vincent Panico should verify.
G+_Dominick Valentic
Yeah it sounds like the speaker popping rather than the HD but the acoustics could just be weird in the video... It'd be nice if you had another HD handy with an OS on it just to rule out completely
G+_Vincent Panico
Thanks guys I do have another HD I'll try it but I'm sure it's not it and I think it might be the power brick I'll let you know
G+_Vincent Panico
Confirmed not the HD
G+_Midwest Concert Video
The most common cause of failure in laptops is overheating caused by dust and hair clogging the space between the cooling fan and the fins of the CPU cooler. Turn the unit off, let it cool down, then use canned air to blow the crud back through the fan.
G+_Vincent Panico
That's what I meant power supply I'm taking it apart to look around.
G+_Keith Mallett
Hey Vincent Panico What did you find? A clicking sound is mechanical and the only mechanical devices in your laptop are the HD and the optical drive.
G+_Vincent Panico
Keith Mallett it's not the HD not OD I can't figure out to take the bottom off. I got all the screws out
G+_Keith Mallett
LOL we'll you're on an adventure. That battery is out when you work on it right? If you can get to the ram, the HD and optical drive remove all of them and then use the power cord only and see if it will try and POST

G+_Keith Mallett
OK Vincent Panico so where are you at with the laptop?
G+_Vincent Panico
No where, it comes on and the sound is still there but the screen stays black.
G+_Midwest Concert Video
If the screen is black, that usually indicates a failure of the FL board if the backlight is florescent. Again, does the external monitor connector work?
G+_Keith Mallett
OK I think the clicking may be the piezo speaker that is not working properly giving you a beep error code but it sounds like a click. Do this - Remove the battery and power Remove the hard drive Remove the optical drive Remove both RAM dimms Plug in the power, no battery It will not post without ram. Count the beeps (clicks) in short succession, and in groups. So it may be click-click..... click-click-click.... click-click. I can't remember if Toshiba is on the 3 or 4 beep code set. See what you get.
G+_Vincent Panico
I don't have post turned on
G+_Keith Mallett
I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe you can turn POST off. Maybe you can and I'll take a look but POST is Power On Self Test that they system will run when turned on, It will check for a processor, ram and video card (those items needed for minimum to post). Can you try what I suggested?
