G+_Travis Hershberger
Ok, seemingly silly question here that I have a partial answer to. I'm building a temp and door sensor out of a Raspberri Pi 2. Got all the hardware I need for it, but now what's the best way to mount everything inside the case? I'm thinking using spare motherboard standoffs to stack the boards after I've got everything soldered up, but how to get them to attach to the box? G+_Stephen Butler
So the moral of Wayne Hobbins?? answer is, get a 3d printer? Am I reading it wrong ??
G+_610GARAGE
I would get a piece of plastic (or sheet metal). Mount the plastic to the inside of the case (there should be standoffs already in the case for this) then bolt down your hardware using standoffs. This is technically the proper way to mount stuff into an enclosure. At least for building controls.
G+_Brett Childress
I use hot glue for just about everything.
G+_Ben Reese
Hot glue Brett Childress? beat me to it
G+_Floyd Fernandez
Hot glue because it's cheap and easy. There's a joke there but I'm not going to say it!
G+_610GARAGE
I've used hot glue to hold down many, many components, and every time I regret it. It makes it really difficult to remove and work on the component.
G+_Black Merc
I vote with 610bob, a back plate makes more since, made to fit exactly in your enclosure, this will let you pull everything out in one step, test, repair, then back together. Use jbweld to mount on this back plate. Avoid hot glue if temps are to reach extremes... hot glue tends to 'pop' off.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Carson Black Nope, just a server room monitor. Half the price of commercial models and easily expandable. I think I'll try using some hot glue on the spare motherboard standoffs I have to get everything mounted for the time being, just because I have that right at the electronics workbench already. G+_Travis Hershberger
Well, it's all put together and the pi in installing Rasbian. All that left is the programming which is a bunch of copy-paste from already completed sensor tutorials online. Build pictures and walk through on the way, programming still to be done but will be posted over in Coding101.
