G+_James Barber
Since I can´t post it on the blog here are my additional thoughts So today i woke up, as usual I checked up my deals-site where I always hunt for good deals. I almost didn't believe my eyes when I saw the following deal. The LG G3 with the LG G-Watch for only 399€, officially it costs 549€ here and the street price is around 450€ for the 16GB version. I stormed off with the hope to get one and I even had luck this time, they still had about 20 or so left, so I grabbed 3 of those bundles. I plan on selling 2 bundles to get a bit money back since I can't just justify buying a new phone every month. After I got it, I went home and immediately went into my studio to record my unboxing and first impressions, check the video above for that. For those who don't want to see me complaining, long story short. Here are my thoughts after using it for about an hour now. Let's start with the build and design, everything is great here. It feels very nice in the hand, for its 5.5" it's actually way more compact and leightweight than expected. The back finish is fine, slightly slippery but it feels very good. I don't want to go too much into detail here but from what I can see right now, LG did a really great job here. Just quick, the sound of the spaeakers seems to be quite loud, maybe not exactly OnePlus level but very respectable after all, the sound is quite nice, clear but no bass at all and the speaker placement is quite terrible. It will be interesting to see how bad it really is in terms of getting blocked and muffled in the long run. The next and final 2 things I want to mention is the display and the performance. If you saw my Oppo Find 7 unboxing and review, you almost know what to expect. The display in my opinion is pathetic for what it is supposed to be. This ever so hyped QHD or call it 2k screen would be fine on a prototype phone like the G-Flex was but please don't use this on your only flagship phone of the year. The brighntess is piss poor, 65% brightness seems less bright then the OnePlus One on 30%, that says a lot. Part of that is due to the awful white, or whatever this is supposed to be, I would call it "yellow but let's assume it is supposed to be white" and you will notice this everywhere, everything just look...wrong. Sure there's a color correct option available and I have yet to see if I can make things more acceptable but I don't get how LG can release such a crazy terrible calibrated phone on the market. And even though brightness and whites are bad, that's by far not all that is wrong. Sure, we have a extremely high density thanks to the insane high resolution and that's fine but why LG thought they had to activate some sort of sortware oversharpening is beyond my knowledge. It is quite obvious they tried to make an already high resolution screen seem even more dense and sharp than it is. Mission failed LG! Now let's end this first impressions with the performance and once again I have to mention the Oppo Find 7 because the similarities are striking, same as on the Find 7 everything on the G3 is smooth just not as smooth as on the best phones out there. And when I say less smooth I mean the frame rate, even though there is not a lot of lag visible the overall framerate seems kinda to be cut down to something about 40fps at best where phones like the Oppo Find 7a and OnePlus One easily deliver constant smooth 50-60fps and believe that difference is quite noticable...everywhere at any time. This all means all my fear upfront came true so far after what I saw from the Find 7. Poor, totally overhyped screen and noticable less performance and smoothness compared to other flaships. The Nexus 5 easily drives circles around the G3 at any time. Like I said these are just my first impressions but after all, I had the same on the Oppo Find 7 and nothing changed over time, this means I am not very optimistic something will change here. And I am well aware I always complain to much but it’s hard to see anything that excites me here besides the size, design and nice build quality. Let me know what you think, do you have the G3 and are you happy with it?
