G+_Frank Johnson Sr
I have the Synology RT2600ac router and the Ds1517+ using a cable 60 connection. However, I'm considering switching to ATT's U-verse but their modem also includes their router. Will putting the Synology router behind the ATT modem/router affect my network? G+_Gene Hill
It will not affect your current network if you still use your synology router after the uverse router/modem. You are able to turn off the wifi and such on the uverse router so it will basically be the same network topology as you currently have with the cable modem and synology router. G+_Frank Johnson Sr
Thanks Gene, I've talked to them three times and the people you talk to are order takers and have no idea and said just order it and ask the installer and at that time you can cancel if you want. I had one several years ago but do not remember being able to shut the ATT Wifi off. Since I have Directv, I can save $38 a month over Charter. Thanks again. G+_Gene Hill
I have cable myself, but my parents have ATT Uverse, I know we disabled the Wifi signals, and are using a wifi router as an access point.
G+_John Sullivan
I have had ATT Uverse for 8? years. The modem/router is the original one they provided, and WiFi can easily be turned off in the router settings.(This may have changed with whatever device they are installing nowadays, but as the customer rep said, just ask the installer). You can use any router after the ATT one, as long as you know how to set it up. The Know How episodes about the three dumb router setup will give you some hints, but you will still need to learn how to do it with your own setup. Best way might be to have the ATT device installed and use it to feed your main computer. Then plug the Synology into one of the other output ports (LAN ports) of the ATT device and connect a different computer to it. Once you have the settings right and the second computer works as you expect it, you could put all your computers on the LAN side of the Synology. G+_Frank Johnson Sr
I remember you have to change the IP Number of the second router as I recall unless I can totally disable the built-in router. Of course, if not everything from the switch to the computers and printers will have to use different IP#s I think. I will have to look that up. It's good to know it will not slow down my network and the fact that it works. Believe it or not, after replacing the Linksys (Cisco) EA6300 router with the Synology RT2600ac router, my download speed jumped from 54Mps down to 68Mps down. Thanks for all your help. G+_Michael Young
Yes, I have this exact setup and it works fine. I did have to turn off several services on the ATT router, but ultimately it works great.
G+_Frank Johnson Sr
Michael Young, did the installer help you with the settings or can you enlighten me as what you had to turn off on the ATT router? I've not made the switch yet, but if ATT can give me bandwidth of 30-40Mps down, I will.
G+_Michael Young
The installer certainly did not help me, in fact I got him out of the house as quick as possible. I did however get most of my directions from this post https://forums.att.com/t5/AT-T-Internet-Equipment/U-verse-for-BUSINESS-2Wire-3600HGV-bridge-mode-or-another-AT-amp/m-p/2707755#M182
G+_Frank Johnson Sr
Thanks Michael, I printed those directions out. I appreciate it.
G+_Michael Young
No problem, one last note, make sure you have your ATT router on a UPS. For some reason it does not hold the custom config after a power outage.
