G+_Brandon Jasper
I can understand why DJI did this but the whole drone hysteria protectionist reaction is bs. If I really wanted to fly their newly updated drone in DC I'd just block the GPS antenna from receiving a signal and fly anyway.
G+_Jeff Brand
Perhaps we'll get some anti-drunk government employee legislation, since that was the real problem here. I might be thinking of another company but I seem to recall a Flitetest.com review of the Inspire-1 that said after a certain amount of time without applying a mandatory update the quad wouldn't take off. Should the rules ever mature about DC airspace, DJI will end up missing out on the pro-video market there. It's small segment, but there's a brand trust issue that consumers will react to, and video production teams will likely stay away from tools that enforce arbitrary limits on their ability to shoot footage. G+_Wayne Black
It was only a matter of time before this happened. I'm sure these mandatory updates will include the no fly 5 mile zone around airports too. It will be an easy update with any RC unmanned vehicle that has GPS sensors and maybe that will be a requirement for all RC umvs. So the toy quads like the Syma X5 will cost a little more. The times, they are a changin'.
