G+_Jeff Brand
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ?, as you continue to discuss FPV, I was wondering if you were going to talk about FCC compliance, or lack thereof, in most reasonable transmitter setups. In short, those of us without ham operator licenses will be breaking the law if we follow your purchase recommendations. That said, following the law will really cramp our style as compliant transmitters are severely underpowered: What shall we do?
G+_Jeff Brand
Carson Black?, Travis Hershberger??, thought you might want to weigh in since you seem to have fpv gear of your own.?
G+_B Binkerd
What's stopping you from getting a license? There are quite a few people who come through testing to get a technician class license just for use with quadcopters or other hobbies. You're not required to buy expensive radio gear to get the license.
G+_Travis Hershberger
I need to look into that technician class license I suppose. This market is worse than the CB market was when I drove truck for a living. I've not seen any notices on websites about needing a license for any transmitter. At least I know that Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ has said that anything over 25mw needs some sort of license. Haven't gotten myself in trouble yet as the parts for my FPV model are still trickling in. G+_Jeff Brand
Blaine Binkerd, I suppose not much. I'm trying to start the discussion about it since I only learned about it myself when browsing articles over at Tested.com.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Wayne Hobbins Yep, I haven't really pursued that yet. By the time I get anything working I'll be forced to get it done of course. Going to go start another thread on it now actually.
G+_Jeff Brand
Wayne Hobbins, I'm wondering if it's output power vs effective radiating power. That would be a seriously inefficient antenna. Or they state the max of the given circuit while hampering it in other ways. Of general note, if I remember my RF, 200mW has only twice the range of 20mW, which makes a big difference at this scale but not as drastic as one would assume if counting linearly.
