Hi all --

Looking for input on a getting a new tablet. I've been using a pair of Nexus 7 2013's and one is starting to show its age (getting stuck in a boot loop. In the latest spat, I smacked the tablet and it got out of the loop. Something about the gyro getting stuck...)

The iPad mini 4 (128gb) is on sale at best buy this week for $300. Not sure if I should pull the trigger. (I just got a Mavic Pro, and could use the mini with the controller, but it looks big and clunky). I might get the mini (while its on sale) and return it unopened later.

Whats the current best android tablet? (I'm so outta of da loop lately)

Thx

If(a serious if) they break that wall, i'll think about touching an apple.

About 'that wall', if i buy an app, i want that app on any device i buy! If i buy a laptop, i want it there. if i buy a smart tv, i want it there.

Androids are everywhere, my app can be on any one of them... But apple.

Now that being said, the reverse can be said(sorta) in the apple world. Till the wall between those worlds comes down, i see no reason to buy any app that i cannot take to any device i choose.

As much as I dislike Apple, they have some of the best tablets. If that's what you want, go for it. We have a first-gen that's still kicking (though most new apps aren't supported).

I haven't kept up with Android tablets much, but Samsung and Amazon are probably the only two brands I'd recommend at this time.

My Galaxy Tab 2 is now rooted and Cyanogen Mod breathed new life into it. My wife's Galaxy Tab 3 is still stock, but runs pretty well. We have 2 Fire Kids tablets that our children enjoy using (I sideloaded the Google Play store and Google Play Services).

I'm sure there are other decent Android tablets - I just haven't kept up with them.

I own both a NVidia Shield K1 and a few iPads (a mini 4 32GB and iPad 4 64GB). Each has its own place... the iPad 4 is mostly for my wife and son. the Mini 4 is mostly for my Phantom 3 Pro, and the Shield WAS for the Phantom, but got a great deal on the Mini 4. I decided to keep the Shield because it actually runs pretty well. And being that my home turned into 95% Apple, the Shield will help me keep an Android toe in the water.

But in reality, assess your environment and go from there. Some will say Apple is the best, some will say Android... but it's really what works for you. For what I own, Apple is the better choice. YMMV...

Tod Sage? unfortunately, I don't do much gaming on either. My wife and I just use our phones (HTC 10 and Galaxy S8), so the tablets are mostly used by the kids. They play small games in them some, but mostly YouTube Kids.

BTW... While Apple supports their products longer with OS updates, that's not as big of a deal with Android. Pretty much all of the current apps will run on the 5 year old Tab 2. Our iPad is 7 years old, but I haven't been able to install new apps for at least a year.

todd zimmerman I'm in the same boat too. My wife's N7-2013 is aging and her screen is cracked but still working.

If you can't wait, I'd go with a NVidia Shield K1. If you can wait, I'd wait till Octobler and see if Google releases a new 7-8 inch tablet. There quite a few rumors that one is coming.

Hi all.... Just now able to catch up on thing (just completed a server upgrade event for a customer about an 30m ago -- alls well on that end, whew!)

I apprentice everyone's input. I'm just surprised that there wasnt a wider position on one specific dominant Tablet on the android side.

So on Wednesday, I went a head and purchased the mini 4 while it was still on sale. (BTW, Walmart had the same spec at $450, not on sale). I haven't busted the plastic wrap yet. I still got other things to look into.

My Nexus 7, now booting, won't start into Recovery... Its gonna take some effort to get that resolved. (For some reason, when running, the Home button doesn't work. To exit an app, I have to use the Back key. Nothing on the Notifications bar works. The recommended action I heard to resolve this it do factory reset. But isnt that done via recovery? In any case, its going to take time to resolve.)

On Tuesdays, I was looking at DJI web site, and found that there is a mission app to plan a drone flight. Its iOS, optimized for an iPad. I need to do more research to see if that app will get me to bust the plastic wrap.
