G+_Jeremy Hunter
I was watching TNT on the Jan. 29 which talked about the Automatic.com ibeacon. Is there an OBDII sensor for android that can relay live info from the car's computer to an android phone? Specifically the Nexus 5.
G+_Kreg Steppe
Yes. Not specifically for android..I have an obdii Bluetooth device. It was around $25 on amazon... The app was free. I have I used it on my VW Beetle and my Nexus 7... and my Samsung GS4?
G+_HeCareth M. Wosu
Yes sir!!! https://plus.google.com/114189805864997764295/posts/YPRg6iN2qH1
G+_Paul Miller
I use torque pro with a cheap Bluetooth OBDII that I got from EBay. It's always worked for me although I don't keep it hooked up constantly. The App developer warns that generic Bluetooth adapters may cause trouble but I've never had an issue. G+_HeCareth M. Wosu
Automatic is actually kind of expensive for what it does. It does exactly what Dash does, but Dash can use any Bluetooth enabled OBD
G+_Kreg Steppe
I have been using Torque on Android to talk to my ODBII device. (link below). I will have to look at Dash. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en
G+_Ryan Suess
HeCareth M. Wosu thanks which sensor are you using? Kreg Steppe what app & sensor are you using??
G+_HeCareth M. Wosu
Kreg Steppe I heard about Torque. It gives much more detailed analytics. Dash is basically just like Automatic it will be interesting to see how they play out as Dash went Android first and Automatic went iOS first. G+_HeCareth M. Wosu
Ryan Suess I was tempted to be the $70 sensor. But I just ended up buying the BAFX sensor on Amazon for $24 and it is working great?
G+_Kreg Steppe
I bought this one, which I think is the same one HeCareth M. Wosu is talking about. http://j.mp/1hUpEhh and I have used Torque Pro. The interface is quirky, but it is detailed.
G+_HeCareth M. Wosu
Kreg Steppe Yep that is what I bought. What I like about the Dash is that it automatically turns on when I start driving, I don't really have to do much to it. It keeps my GPS on but that does not seem to be a huge battery killer for my Nexus 5. About 5% for a 1 hour commute. ? The Dash interface is very well designed. Even though it does not have as much detail as Torque it is much pleasurable to use.
G+_Kreg Steppe
HeCareth M. Wosu Do you use your ODBII device all the time? Do you leave it connected all the time? I wish it would turn off when I turn the car off so I wouldn't have to worry about the battery. (For the record I only hook it up sometimes)
G+_HeCareth M. Wosu
Kreg Steppe Yes I do my car actually turns it off when I turn off the car. I have an Audi A6, however my wife's Infiniti FX35 does not do that and it stays on all the time. So I might have to buy her the $70 connector which actually which has a battery saver feature. There was a comment in the reviews about battery drain, and the BAFX responded that when the car is off it only pulls a low amount of power not possible to drain an entire car battery. They said it would take a full week for it to drain a cars battery.
G+_Mel Ezzo
Look for the Bluetooth sensor on amazonfor around 25, add in torque for software and you have a 500 dollar scan tool.
G+_Ryan Suess
Thanks for all the info. I'll look into them and pick something up in a few weeks. I'll try to remember to let you know which way I end up going.
